1100RT luggage case rubber falling off

Has anyone had the big rubber pad fall off the outside of the sidebags? I tried what I thought would be a sure fix, double sided foam tape. And the darn thing fell right the heck off. And yes I did use that exact word. My four year old was helping! My next thoughts were clear silicone or contact cement. But I thought I would tap into this vast wealth of knowedge first.

Hmmm. No help out there so I called my dealer today and told him what I tried. He told me I did exactly what they would have done! So I got creative and wet sanded the inside of the rubber part with acetone and 40 grit paper. Then I spread silicone caulking around the perimeter and dabs on the insides. I taped it all down tight and I'll see what tomorrow brings.

I did the double sticky foam tape thing and it lasted for several months, but finally failed. This time, I tried using contact cement on the rubber and the old double sticky that is still stuck quite tight to the case itself although not to the rubber. So far - about 2 weeks - so good, but I expect there will be a failure somewhere down the road.
