You need to scroll down a little and hit the "Manage Attachments" button. You should be able to navigate to whereever your picture is and attach it. :thumb

Hi Susan,
To "Attachment" the picture must be smaller than 76kB ( about 3x5 or 800x600pixels) depending.
After you attach the photo using the "Attachment" function (scroll down) do not "preview" the post just post it.
You can only attach one photo or image per post so you will have to post more than one post (reply) for each picture.
It's easy and great to sign up for smugmug and we get a discount if you use the code. I'll see if I can find it. If you have a photo sharing service then you use the "Picture" button above and add as many as you want up to the MOA servers capability about five depending on size?

Dave:
Alas, the Mooney was a victim of the National Energy Program many years ago. Also, my wife went back to school about then, and spent 13 years becoming a Glaucoma sub-specialist, so I'm not complaining.
I like your new avatar; what route are you flying?
My bike's exactly like yours, except for a Remus. You've got to hear your bike with one, on the pipe, next to a cliff face. With your pay grade increase, you can afford it now. :stick
I'm gonna learn to do the pictures, even if I have to bring my best friend in to help (he's a forensic software guy; a disc scrubber and code breaker). Then they'll be sorry here, because I'm going to put up a ton of cat pictures. I may even do a cat avatar. I'll be in big leagues; even though I'm a sub - thousand poster.

Depending on the picture you are looking at in smugmug, if you right click on that image and go to properties, the url you want to copy and subsequently use to imbed your image in your post is there. IIRC, smugmug has 4 image sizes for each pic you upload, small, medium large and original. At least for me that's the case, I upload very large images. Righthand side of the picture screen if you mouseover there you see a little flyout menu that allows you to choose the image size, then use the right click/properties procedure mentioned above to get the appropriate url.
Good luck.

Usually, you will get where you need to be for posting photo size by reducing the photo to no more than 600x800 or 800x600 pixels (depending on if it's a portrait or landscape orientation). That makes for a fairly large photo for the forum, but doable. In a .jpg format it should be under 100kb. Even smaller sizes are easier for people to view who have their monitors set to 1024x768 resolution (lots of laptops) or smaller. Try posting some different sizes here.

Look Here for how to get your scanner to play along with you. (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=17458#post17458)
:type Wait, wait, a minute, you are making this too complicated.
Every scanner has a dotted scan adjustment feature reflected in the "Preview" screen seen on your computer. Use your "mouse" to drag the edges of this dotted image crop tool over your picture. Don't let the scanner just choose to scan "default". You have to help the scanner decide what size of a job it is asked to do.
So, you have selected correctly, then choose the type of file you want the scanner to save your image in and where,on your comptuer, the image will be found after you save it. Do not scan it to the internet from you scanner.
As indicated, don't expect the scanner to save the image in a particular size of photo unless you have entered that value in the scanners "preference" file, or setup file.
When you tell your scanner to save your scan, it will have a drop down menu to choose from and it will also have a drop down menu to choose an application to send the image to, like Adobe Photoshop or this other image enhancing program being promoted in these posts.
What is improtant is that an image scanned to a file MUST then be opened in an image enhancing program that can manipulate the image so that it is internet ready, ie. match the upload preferences desired to see the image and conserve space on the host drive.
I hope this posting is helpful?

Ah, yes. Go to the internet site, using your "mouse", highlight or point to the photo you want to capture, and "right" click your mouse button, assuming you have a "mouse" with two tabs and a roller wheel between them. ( if you are using a laptop, then it is the the right tab below the scroller pad that is used instead of a "mouse".
A window pops up that will show you what file format it is copied in and then you pick the location on your computer. The photos are just the right size for posting on the internet. Some will be better resolution than others. I'm assuming this web based program is similar to others that family members have used, there are many.

Usually, resizing from a bigger picture to a smaller picture works just fine. I use Irfanview a lot... What I do is open the original picture...usually the size is quite big if it was shot with a digital camera, like maybe 1600 x 1200. I then click on Image, Resize/Resample, then click on either 640 x 480 or 800 x 600. I take all of the other options as default. After that, chose File, Save As, and enter a new file name, different than the original file name.
Is that what you did? What is the source of the original? If you go from a smaller picture to a bigger picture, you can get a grainy picture if you go too big.

What do you mean by "too large"? That's about the right size for a picture to appear on the screen without going over the edge, requiring a viewer to have to scroll up/down or left/right.
I don't have any of the on-line picture storage space, so I can't really help there. Maybe there's some kind of restriction you're having with your file-sharing site.

I tried resizing to 640x480 and 800x600. Both resulted in too large a file size. I have to be doing something wrong. I just don't know what it is.
When we're talking about image "size", there are two components that make up the actual size of the file. I think the limit here is 160K/image (it's been a while). The image size comes from the sizes you've shown above, but also from the density of the image. For example, your image, while a different dimensional size, has the original density "size".
In Irfanview, when you resize, you want to turn the density down to something like 72dpi (which is about the max you'll get on a display) at the same time as you change the dimensional "size".
Try something like 400 on the long side for the dimensions (leave the aspect ratio alone and Irfan view will calculate the other edge's length) and set the density (resolution? look for something that controls dpi) to 72dpi and you should be set.
Alternatively, you can spend $25/year (or thereabouts, use the MOA discount) and just stick all your photos up on smugmug. You can then just use a link to the image and forever forget about resizing and attaching. :)
Try it again, man, let's see your photos! I'd love to see more folks taking part in the photo assignment threads. :buds

I just opened a Smug Mug account and can't even get my pictures into the site. The Smug Mug is easy enough, but I can't yank the stuff out of my computer.
Anyway, the teen agers are here now and are going to help me.
Rinty
Hey, rinty.
What are you using for a computer? PC? Apple? What internet browser are you using?
I can give you a hand putting photos in your post. You can get your stuff up to smugmug, right?
rinty

Thanks for your offer, Dave. I'm on a PC. Teen agers to the rescue! My daughter's friend, who is going on to take graphic arts, came in and got the uploading going in about 2 minutes. Ha! He had never seen Smug Mug and was quite interested in it. Wondered why I was using it, and was quite impressed. I wouldn't have been able to do it on my own though: I had stuff in parked in both Photoshop Elements and Microsoft Office.
So it's on to the next step now.

OK, you're real close now.
Instead of just pasting the link in, hit that little yellow button that has the mountain on it. It'll open up a little window and you can just paste the link you've got up above here in that window.
You'll then see your info, pasted in between two little IMG tags. To see, quote this post.

I did a pre run of the show yesterday and found a Singapura breeder from Northern California. She was up here judging. But they're even higher energy cats than Abyssinians, of which we already have one, so I don't know......The place could turn into a circus.
Got an e mail from Smug Mug; as you know, they give you a URL that you can pass along to your friends so they can go directly to all your pictures. Heck of deal.

The whole deal is a bit complicated, if you're not into IT. There are wonderful folks here who will help, but there's nothing like having somebody who knows what they're doing, right next to you at the keyboard.
Once you're shown how, it's pretty easy, in fact. But there are little stumbling blocks that can be frustrating.
Good luck.

HI Rinty and to all the others before us and after,
You know, as I was muddling through the numerous posts on the "How do I post a Picture " thread I found those that got it right away and those that didn't ( you and I :dunno ) but your "stick to it-ness" kept me going until I got it. So, to answer your questions on some of the pix in my tests. The R coming down the snowfield is taken in the French Alps. You can see this was part of a recent Tour de France route as bikers names are stilll visible painted on the road. The guy on the red RT in the big snowfield is me near the Val d'Isere. Campsite is Bavarian alps, headlight on the wet road in the woods is also Bavaria, rock Canyon is also in France. I'm working up my courage to post a ride report......
rinty
11-05-2007, 10:35 AM
...your stick-to-it-ness kept me going
Thank you; I've been putting it off for two years. For some reason, I get really upset when I hit IT snags. :dunno
Ah, Val d' Isere, home of my childhood hero, Jean - Claude Killy.
I'm working up my courage to do a road ride report.....
I'm thinking about some short ones in the near future. The multiple picture posting is not hard with Smug Mug, and then you can stick your text in between.
I just keep the curser well away from the precious HTML text. :laugh
My other project is some pretty good prints that I have scanned and parked in Photoshop Elements. But my Elements for Dummies book got lost in the paper vortex of my wife's home medical office and I've forgotton how to massage them. So my teen age consultant is coming over this evening to refresh my technique, and missing Monday Night Football and the Flames vs. Colorado game is a small price to pay.:)

I had you in mind yesterday, as I was on a 330 on the Frankfurt to Calgary run (my step mother in Holland just passed away). There were serious headwinds, so the captain took us way up north on a run he said he hadn't been on for some time. Amazingly, we made up a 45 minute late pushback and arrived exactly as originally scheduled.
That Frankfurt airport though, is the most confusing one I have ever seen.

I've found that the easiest way to post good pics on any site, without worrying at all about their sizing, is to go thru flock/photobucket. it takes a bit to get setup & running, but once done it's as easy as can be.
here's how-
in your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape Navigator, etc), go to flock.com. & download their browser. once downloaded, open Flock (I saved a shortcut to my desktop) and go to photobucket.com
once there create your account. I set photobucket as my start page in Flock, as that is really the only thing I use Flock for. you will then be able to upload pics from your computer's hard-drive, or from any peripheral device (camera, scanner, memory card, etc) you have. now your pics are on the web, and you can access them for posting using their directions. should be pretty self-explanatory once you see what everything looks like. (use the IMG Code as the link to copy)
podsobinski
12-06-2007, 12:36 PM
I guess I am not computer literate enough to handle all that. I know how to email pictures to friends etc. But taking them off my Pics file and putting them into another program then putting them on the forum just doesn't seem right. My tecno geek guy just laughs at those steps and says with all the members throughout the nation it is a joke the forum isn't upgrade to a more user friendly format that a rock guy could understand.

How do you get the picture files to Infra View?
You use File>Open in Irfanview, just like any other application.
The simplest way to insert pictures is to host them somewhere on the web. Flickr is free, but I like Smugmug.
This will keep you from having to actually mail pictures, you just send people a link to your gallery.
I believe we're on the most recent version of vBulletin. We've upgraded since the original post, so the Attach File option is now Manage Attachments.

The hardest part is moving the pictures out of your PC into the photo site. Once you're into Smug Mug, it's not that hard to get them into the Forum. With Smug Mug, you have the simple picture sizing feature that allows dummies like me to post. It's worth the 30 bucks (or whatever the fee was) right there.
And if I want to do special picture editing, I just use Photoshop Elements in my own PC, with the help of my Dummies book.

try this:
http://flock.com/
clik the Download Flock 1.0 link.
then you'll get this page
http://www.flock.com/get-ready-to-flock/
when you open flock as a browser, go to http://photobucket.com/
once you've joined, and your account (free) is established, you'll see some boxes in the upper right that say "upload to (whatever you named yourself)" The default source will be "images from my PC", but you can always change that if/when you want to.
really, it's damn easy.
then you can post pics like these
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q13/bikerfish1100/RanchnearRMNP-1.jpg

Hi Rinty! Sorry to 'hear' the reason of your trip!!
I remember well, the Jet Stream that week! I personaly saw as much as 167 kts from the west, crossing it N to S.(with the associative turbulence)!!
The reasons for going way north, above the Atlantic Track System, can be complex, with regards to ETOPS requirements etc. With the Jet Stream as strong as it was, I'm sure flying North of it was the best alternative in regards to fuel burn and time issues.
I didn't mean to ask for more family shots, as that is very personal, I was hoping you might have a few shots of the roads through the 'Rocks' and surrounding areas. I have a feeling you have some! :)

I had the same problem and had to ask. When you go to post you have the option of ATTACHING a photo from your computer and uploading it. This option only allows one photo per post. The software doesn't have an option for more photos.
You also have the option of referencing the URL of a photo posted elsewhere on the web. This option permits the referencing of more than one URL, hence more than one photo in a single post.

if you are clicking the "picture" icon in the editor, then you only need to enter the URL of the image... the forum software automatically applies the image tags.

Don,
I would love to get some high res (fill sized) copies of some shots of your bike. I have a collection of K1 photos going, but not many of such a beautiful black one. PM me and maybe you could send them to me directly.

Hi new member here.
I also belong to a club for my Mazda van mpvclub.com, the point here is its easy there to post a pic using reply to thread. Is there a place here in the reply to add pics?
As I am surching thru the threads, I see no pics. I am most interested in doing my own wrenching and would hope to see topics on repairs with pics.
One of my mechanical problems is to replace the slave cylinder for the clutch and I found a topic, but its only a discussion. No pics?
Well its great to be on board at any rate.
Thanks
Mike

When you compose a new message, or a reply, scroll down the page to the "Manage Attachments" button. This is where you can add photos. Don't preview your message once you've added attachments, though.
