Turns out I need a new tank for my '78. (Just too much rust damage to weld) I have a choice btw sveral grades of used tanks at places like Re-Psycle and others ranging from $65 to $360. I also found a private party in CA w a NOS in primer tank for which he wants $500.

One paint estimate is about $500 on a used tank, including stripping down to bare metal, bondo-ing the dents, priming and repainting. Plus a hundred or two to re-line the inside.
I might save as much as $150 on the paintjob IF...IF the NOS tank primer is perfect and REALLY ready to paint.

I'm guessing shipping from CA to Chicago adds $50 to the price of the NOS tank. Shipping from a place like Re-psycle in Columbus is obviously less.

I could pay re-Psycle w Visa and maybe get it shipped today so I can ride before the snow flys, and then paint over the winter.

Whaddaya thimk?

Thanx to both you guys (got a PM from another guy), but I stumbled across already painted & striped NOS. Who wouldda guessed?

...and I know it's anatomically incorrect, but yes...arm and leg through the nose.

For future reference on used parts, don't forget Boxerworks (GA) 706.310.0031. Their parts guy, Matt, is a good friend of mine and Boxerworks is a class act. Tell Matt that The Veg sent you! :)
