has anyone had experience with fiberglass exhaust pipe outer wrap? my area of interest is controling (limiting) heat build-up inside the 1150 rt fairing structure. not interested in an asthestics discussion or a high perforamce debate. just want to not melt the fairing in traffic. pro & cons?
thanks

Have you looked into Jet-Hot coatings? This process coats both the inside and outside of the header, and outside temperature reduction is one of the benefits.

Jet Hot...does it really work? I have used coatings on industrial equipment...not sure there is very much "insulating" valve with them. They look good and don't seem to burn off...but

I've been a pilot for about 34 years, We've used fiberglass exhaust wrap for years in some of the tighter cowlings of piston engined aircraft. Works great.
Not the prettiest stuff but effective.
Take care

Ceramic tape is another option to consider.

flyboy, thank you for the input.

I've installed the fiber glass header wrap on the RT..but I get nervous when it smokes. (I ride it down the street and back with a fire extinguisher bungied to the rear rack) However, it smokes less & less each time I heat it up.

Measured the temp of the head pipe...1200 F this was at fast idle, sitting still for just under a minute. I can only image what a loonnggg traffic light in 90 degree weather would do to the temp reading.

Ceramic tape???????? Where do I find that? What brand/trade name? Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah, the stuff smokes a bit until you burn off the oil that was transferred from your hands and other contaminents. Your exhaust temp will go up.
Good luck and take care.
