View Full Version : What's your most unique riding goal?

Perhaps my most "off the wall" but achievable riding goal is to eventually camp at every state park in my state.

There are only 24 state parks in the state, so I can project eventually camping at all of them within a reasonable period of time.

In fact, I've got several out of the way already. But it will take me a while to finish the roster, as I don't camp in the dead of winter, or the dog-days of summer.

Now I'm curious to know if anyone else has a unique riding goal, and what it might be.

Next!

Have been hoping to make a perimeter tour of the continental US some day. This would be a leisurely 4 to 6 week adventure around all of the perimeter states with several side trips to the interior whenever the mood hits me or the road calls me. :wow

To ride across Canada and tour every Province. Oh wait, I did that last year. Damn, now I gotta come up with a new one:dunno

Perhaps a European tour or an Austlalia trip.

It's certainly my goal. Someday I'll have a hitchhiker moment and fly instead of smacking the pavement.

I would like to ride all of the US Highways. Not all of the Interstates but the old US Highways. I am working on it. :wave

I want to get my picture taken 22 times across North America in places named Bradford. Iowa likes me so much they named 2 towns after me.

I'll agree with not crashing!

I caught that Hitchhiker reference! Let me know if you figure out how it's done!

US highways? Not all of them are that interesting. I assume that map is just the ones you've been on, as it appears to be missing lots of them.

As for me, I dunno. My riding is sort of evolutionary- it leads to itself from itself and I never know what idea or place I may stumble upon. Who knows? I oculd ride anywhere anyhow if I put my imagination to it. I could of course jokingly say that maybe a far-fetched goal for me would be to make to an Internaltional rally, since they're always so far away that I don't have enough time off to go.
I doubt I'd ever so a Ted Simon because I can't see being away from home for THAT long. But I can see doing a several-weeks tour about this and/or other continents.
We'll see. And I'll post a ride report wherever I go! :)

I would like to ride across Canada to Hyder, Alaska taking all back roads and stopping in little known towns.

Markf- make sure to get 'Hyderized' if you make it!
It's nice country and not too far off the beaten path

What does it mean to be "Hyderized"?

brooksie
02-15-2004, 08:57 PM
It's a local ritual drink that is pretty powerful. Pretty much straight booze. A few of the bars in Hyder are famous for it. Once drank, you get a certificate. It's not as bad as the 'Sour Toe Cocktail' in Dawson, though...:D

Sounds like a real adventure! I'll have to add that to my list of things to do if I ever make it to Alaska...!

My goals are rather modest compared to some posted here. I want to ride through every county in Texas (254), and every state in the U.S.

I get a paid sabbatical every few years, and my next one comes up in 2009, when my son will be just short of 18. He and I have long been planning to take a couple of months and ride bikes on a tour to hit the four corners of the continental U.S. I'm very much looking forward to that.

Shorter term, my wife and I are taking our first long bike trip together this July, two weeks on bikes along the California central coast and the Napa wine country, bracketed around the three days of the Laguna Seca superbike races in Monterey. Very much looking forward to that too. Even though it's not a mega-trip, for my wife who just started riding a few months ago it's a huge step, not just for her but for our riding together.

When you get to the Bay Area, look us up. We live about a half hour from Napa and can take you guys on a pretty fun tour of the area, either on bikes or in the truck.

Wine country has terrific riding and fun vineyards, but if you're going wine tasting, the truck is the way to go. Tina doesn't sample the local vineyard output, so we have a driver.

Sounds great -- will do. For us the term "wine country" is a nominal only because I never drink and my wife seldom does, so what we're really interested in is the beautiful country that happens to surround the wine grapes :-) . We were there (in a car) about 10 years ago, have long thought it a prime place to visit on bikes and mosey slowly down all those beautiful winding lanes, taking in the sights. We'd very much value your company -- will be in touch when the time is closer -- thanks!

I've really just started thinking about this one...In 1976, fresh out of college, my younger brother and I rode our bicycles from Astoria, OR to Virgina Beach, VA and I thought it would be a fun thing to re-create it via the motorcycle 30 years later in 2006.

It was a marvelous trip, 4000 miles or so of two lane roads, great scenery, wonderful people. It's just a thought, but I'd really like to do it.

Like several previously, I want to do the four corners of the US. Found the SCMA and their sponsoring of this as an Ironbutt event to be done in 21 days or less. Would be a hoot.

But, I guess I'll have to see how I fair going to Spokane this summer. Going to plan it as a SS1000 going up and probably come down Highway 1 coming home.

I want to ride from town to town on my RS, and work odd jobs to get the money to ride somewhere else, and along the way break some hearts, and help the locals with their problems. ( has this ever been done before?)

I haven't been on the train, but I've seen it a whole bunch of times. It really does look like a good time. The traffic on that side of the valley can be pretty horrendous on a nice day and the train just bypasses the whole mess.

Plus, you get to spend your time looking out the windows and drinking some fine Napa wines.

I have riden every month of the year. Last March I made a goal to get some riding in during each of the next twelve months. Today was the first time I could get out and about in February. It was a lovely, balmy 36 with the sun shining bright.
Oh, happy day!

Hey, that's my goal too ; )

But that makes it not unique.

Guess I'll have to go for 1,100,000. That has a nice ring to it.

Now we both have unique goals once more.

Hey R75/7,

The best thing about the pace is you can ride this way when you are all alone. I remember a few years ago we circulated this article amoung the Yankee Beemers. This plus the fact that for us a group ride is groups of two or three meeting somewhere really increased the fun because there was no talk of the pace on the rides because everyone already was fully aware.

After reading the article you could understand how it would be difficult to convey in conversation. Better to just hand 'em a copy.

Think smmooooooooooooth. :wow

Best,

It was Kane (Kaine? Caine? Cane?) in Kung Fu! You don't think he actually walked from town to town in those barefeet, do you?

I have a few...

1) Perimeter loop around U.S.

2) Ride to Alaska, then take ferry back WA or BC, then continue ride back to San Mateo.

3) Tour of Scotland.

4) Tour of Ireland.

5) Ride across Canada.

6) Retrace Neil Peart's ride...we'll see about that one...

7) This June: Northwestern U.S. tour with a little off-shoot into MN to see family, then back via northern route, then down coast to CA...

That's all for now...Better get started...
