If you are bored buzzing along I-90 through Montana headed to the rally in Spokane, you might want to try this ride for lots of fun and excitement. This is one of the funnest rides with 87 miles of twisties and sweepers. A large portion of road has new pavement on it for excellent traction (S & RS riders).
To pick up this road, turn off of I-90 at St. Regis, Mt. Simply ask a local at the service station how to go over "Gold Creek Road" in Idaho. The directions will be very easy. The only draw back is that the road on the Montana side is still gravel. But, this is the best gravel road you have ever seen. It is very well maintained with no pot holes, and no excessive loose gravel. Much of it has dust control with a non-petroleum product. This makes the road smooth and easy. A friend and I did it last year and he was riding an R1100 RS and had zero problems. The little bit of gravel is difinately worth putting up with.
Once you reach the top of the continental divide (Idaho), the road is paved. When you reach the St. Joe River take a left and head down stream and enjoy 87 sMiles. At the end of this road you will dead-end at hwy. 3. Take a right to Harrison. To get to Harrison you will need to pick up hwy. 97 in about 10 miles, or you can follow hwy. 3 to Rose Lake. I would suggest hwy. 97 if you like lakeside scenery and twisty roads. Hwy. 97 will put you back onto I-90. Continue to head West on I-90 into Spokane and enjoy one of the best rallies you will ever attend!!
