I seem to be the only one in the parking lot again this morning. Tropical weather rolling in and I saw the lightshow to the east headed in this AM. It just started raining as I was typing this.
I left house knowing I would most likely get wet sometime today...I enjoy riding ANYTIME and hate driving enough to choose wet over dry. This week we already have heat indexes in the 114 range:doh so the rain is a little break actually
So....How bad do you want to ride? I know the Rounders will just about do anything...what's your threshold?
Austin is the star in center and we are on the wet side of this system

I don't ride if there's ice about. Since I live in central Texas, I ride almost every day, rain or shine, hot or cold.

I think lightening would be a good time to get off the road. Check out this guys first hand account. (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256901)

Steady rain or drizzle is not a problem. Thunderstorms I try to avoid. I got caught in one 2 years ago at a spot on my commute where I couldn't pull over. It wasn't something I'd like to do again.
Heat? Usually not a problem here in Minnesota, unless you get stuck in traffic. Cold? I've ridden down to around 28 degrees Fahrenheit, on clear roads, no snow or ice. No heated grips or electric clothes, either. And I don't do ice or snow.

little bit of a flash-flood (so they tell me) while arriving in Taos, NM in August 2001. Two up on loaded /5. The most convenient hotel cost much more than we intended but at that point who cares? Have ridden in most weather but that flash flood thing was a bit unsettling. Although, that golfball hail in Montana back in '98 was none too pleasant either! -Bob (... heading into Salty Fog tomorrow)

I hit a thunderstorm on my post-rally trip. Where do you go when you're on a motorcycle, in the middle of a flat road with nothing to hide under, running through a forest (not supposed to run under trees, right)? I decided to duck down and go as fast as I could, since I could see the "end" of the storm. Sadly (and as many people have seen me post here) I got stopped by large hail... but fortunately no lightning strikes.
I'll ride down to about 25 or 20, if there is no snow or ice... at least for a commute to work. If it's getting around 90 and VERY humid, I drive. Rain just depends on my mood. Generally if it's going to rain all day, I drive just to save myself the trouble. If I'm in the right mood or chances aren't very high of rain all day, I ride. Of course, if I haven't been able to ride for a while (after a long winter, for example), the rain always looks pretty inviting. :)

ICE or snow.
Cold don't care.
Rain...If it is raining and I don't have to ride, I will not suit up and ride for hoohahs. If I am caught in the rain...I don't care. If it is a dry ride too my destination, I don't care if I get wet on the way back. i.e. I will ride to work even if I know I will likely get wet on the way home. Most often I stay dry. We live in an area where the weather passes us by often. Big storms to the north and south and nothing here a lot of the time. It is wierd.
I don't mind riding in the wet, but the reduced traction and visibility are not worth the risk. I prefer to ride another day. Around here the idiots are bad enough on the dry clear days that I don't feel the need to test my luck unecessarily. But if I get caught...oh well.

I've avoided deep snow and black ice. I've never encountered a thunderstorm (I live on the west coast) but I'd not ride in lightning either. Rain, freezing cold, slush, small hail, heat up to 115º (so far) are no problem.
It's fun to be a bit nuts.

I also draw the line at ice and snow. 14F & 112F are the current extremes I've ridden in.
I hate the heat, but it sure is a kick to be riding into work in the morning, 14F out, people in their cages with the heater blasting, their gloved hands clutching their Starbucks, seat heaters on full, jackets buttoned up and then then I pull up next to them at the stop light on my little Rebel. The looks on their faces is worth being just a bit chilly (I break out the Gerbings when it gets below 40F)

I love weather challenges. I'm another of the, "only stop for ice" crowd.

What he said! Folks in San Antonio are absolutely crazy when it rains.....definitely not worth the risk if I wake up and it is raining. If I get caught in it.....well, that can't be helped.

by the time you relize you shouldn't be out there its more often nearly too late, in thirty years or so ive done one or two rides that I shouldn't have, punching into a wall of water in new york only to find the hail behind it, watching ice form on my mirrors on the mass turnpike. watching the lighting hit every where near me in tenn then noticing the truck I was passing a truck that was hauling explosives. think Ive used up a good share of the luck that been allotted to me, don't need any more "good stories"

I dont ride if there is ice or snow or rain. Or if there is the chance for ice or snow or rain. Or if the temperaure might be cold. However, I will ride if its on the weekend and if its sunny. If its partly cloudy I dont ride (see first line). I dont ride if I cant stop at a bar every 30 miles or stop to smoke a cigarette every 30 minutes (whichever comes first). And I refuse to ride when...OH! Sorry guys! I thought this was the Harley forum! :hide :ha

I used to take the RT all the time unless someone was standing at the end of my driveway telling me the weather report, as in "Pam says your not riding that to work are you", which meant my mother hen was in a panic state of mind and that I should go find my truck keys and drive.
Now, if a four wheeled vehicle can travel the roads, I go by motorcycle. It may be on a Ural Troyka and not the RT, but I am wearing a helmet to work year round!:clap

I've been in the Texas Hill Country for almost a month now and have at least another week and a half left before going elsewhere. That tropical storm earlier in the week dumped 8 to 10 inches of rain in the San Antonio hill country area. The RV park I am at just shut off 2/3 of the park and 1/3 is under water (lake Medina). I'm in the only area still occupied and there are less than a dozen rigs here when there should be about 100. Now a hurricane is headed to the area and will likely add more wet stuff. Oh boy.....
BTW there has been a shortage of BMW's on the roads around here. I saw few on a run last Saturday.

If I cannot get out of my driveway, I won't ride. Up here in Edmonton, we usually have snow on the lawns and such a little bit before the roads actually become unsafe to ride on. Last year was an anomaly in the we had a big dump of snow the week before Halloween which stuck to the roads. So the bikes got parked. I got the RT on the road on 23 March and the Kawasaki a few days later. Then I traded them in on my current ride. So, it boils down to if the roads are covered in ice (or if my driveway is covered in ice), I don't ride.
