Anyone have experience with the BMW dealers in the Pittsburgh area? Bought my R1150GS last fall and have been learning some wrenching from a friend but I want to have a few things done that I'm not ready to tackle. No dealers in here in West Virginia. I see two in the Pittsburgh area, Heritage BMW and BMW Motorcycles Pittsburgh. I'd like to stick with a dealer once I start. Any thoughts from locals on who I should try?
Thanks,
Mike

I've used BMW Pittsburgh in Wexford since 2002 and have been very happy with their work.

Heritage is undergoing a ownership change & move to a new building. I haven't used their service dept.

I've never used Heritage BMW for service so I can't comment on them. I have had my K75S serviced at the BMW dealership in Wexford. I also bought my R1100RSL from them. They've done acceptable work but I always leave with something small bugging me. There is also Holt BMW in Athens, Ohio. I bought the K75S there and get a lot of parts from them. All three of these shops are the same distance away from my house in Bridgeport, WV. The next time I need service I am tempted to try Heritage or Holt. There is also an independent shop in Parkersburg, Classic Cycle Service, that worked on my R1100RSL when I needed it done fast. They're good.

I have always used Heritage for service and am satisfied with their work. PM me for info about European Motorcycles of Pittsburgh in Wexford. I've heard some horror stories from some local 4 winds club members.

Thanks Pablo. Would the independent be able to check codes with the MoDiTeC?

European motorcycles in Pittsburgh has always treated me well, got a loaner when I was in need of service, always willing to answer my quetions on maintenance over the phone. The service manager, James, came from Heritage, the other dealer, over in Mckeesport, which I understand is going thru some kind of re-org. Just had the 12K done last week, got to use a new R1200R for a couple days. Heritage is much closer, but I have done the ride the last couple times, 65 miles, because of good service. If anyone has a horror story to share, feel free to PM me:dunno

We stopped in at Heritage one day on a trip back home. We were not feeling warm and fuzzy. No one spoke to us. There were big signs telling you not to sit on/touch the bikes, and when I finally asked the sales person a question, he acted as if he couldn't be bothered to help.

I know a few people in the Morgantown area who just make the trip to Bob's.

I have always gone to Craig at Heritage for service on both my
R1150GS and my 1970 R60/5. They are the best and they get you in and out with excellent service and prices. He is honest and fair. I seem to pay about half of what I would at Velocity in Carlilse. They will be moving a few miles up the road soon but Craig will still be running the store. Trust is the biggest factor and Heritage wins hands down.

good point! I live 100 miles away and the loaner is important. I always call enough in advance so that they know I'll need a loaner and there has never been a problem.
Drop off Tuesday afterwork, pick up Thursday.
The R1200R is a blast!

I live in Garrett County,Md. I bought my RR from European Cycles, much better to deal with then Bob's sales force. Although I would never take my bike to them for servicing, scary lack of quality checks. Bob's does have all parts for just about any BMW. I found an excellant mechanic, Alan, at Deep Creek Lake that although a Aprilla dealer he Knows motorcycles, works on just about all brands. Xtreme powersports is where I will take my RR if I need a mechanic to work on my bike, period.

I purchased my used RT at Heritage and was satisfied with the service there, but I don't believe they're ever going to reopen. The new location has been in the works for going on two years now and their web site is gone.

As for European Motorsports, I wouldn't recommend the service there. I was experiencing a surge/miss in the engine and they charged me $300 but didn't find the problem. With the help of a knowledgeable friend who has lots of BMW experience and a little Internet time I finally found the problem myself - a failed primary coil. I believe this is a fairly common problem but they seemed clueless about it.

When I called back to European to try to get the parts as the bike was still under warranty they refused to consider working with me to avoid another 200 mile round trip for service. Other BMW owners in the local area have also had bad experiences with their service.

BMW service is really weak in our area :(

I guess you can treat people any way you want when your the only game in town? I do all of my own service work and will continue, at least I know it's safe! :thumb

Heritage is GONE !!!! Through a series of unfortunate coincidences, the planned move and rebirth failed.

European Motorcycles is the only game in town. Warts and All. Like any business you will hear many reports of either great or bad service. A lot depends on the attitude of the customer and the attentiveness of the service tech.

I hope customer attitude doesn’t play a role in deciding if bolts get tightened or not:doh ? If that’s the case I think I got a criminal case:deal !
