I have a 1969 R69S with 4800 miles. The Bing carburetors have been overhauled. The bike is a one crank start when cold and runs perfectly. When the engine is warm, most of the time it will not start. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe one of the mods could move this to Vintage for John? :D

Bad coil, John?

Don't hold me up as any kind of expert. My R60's still sitting in the atrium staring at me accusingly. :ha

Gaaaah. Work is eating my brain and at the end of the day, all I can do is grab a beer and flop in my chair.

It sucks getting old.

I know how that is...:gerg I'm going to try centering my transmission on my /2 tomorrow, per Duane's website. Seems I need a third pair of hands, but after a good nights sleep, I should be able to give it a try...

Well, good luck with that. Conceptually, it seems like a simple task, doesn't it?

When you say it won't start, what does that mean? Will it spin freely but not fire, turn over slowly or stumble and die?

I think you mentioned that the carbs are in top shape, Bing overhaul?
Good spark, also?

They will start on first or second kick when hot, but the procedure is touchy.

Closed throttle, cracked throttle? Varies slightly with the bike.

Use a consistent procedure, four to five kicks and nothing -- pull the plugs, wet or dry? If wet, your procedure or a carb fault has flooded the bike. Sometimes opening the throttle a little more during the kick phase and immediately closing it to idle on fire will offer an initial leaner mixture.
If dry (not likely) , you modify procedure to add a little fuel to the mixture. Tickler is the most drastic method of adding fuel. If needed, go real light on it.
