tach tops out at 5000rpm

Anybody else have a tach that tops out at 5000 rpm. mine initially suddenly stopped totally, but soon started up again but only indicates no higher than 5000 rpm.

Hello; I have taken both the tach and speedo apart a number of times trying to get it to perform reliably and honestly. So far all my efforts have been to try to recduce drag in the mechanism. If able to remove all the drag from sloppy fits and accumulated detrius, it will berform as it should.
It's not that difficult to get at and get apart, having said that, I have to admit that I am a trained Mechanic with 30 years experience.

To be honest; I have only had temporary success, it lasts for awhile, maybe 3 months. The speedo is more important to me now, it's tough enough doing the mental arithmetic to convert km. to miles, but when the speedo needle is waving all over the place, well you know.
