View Full Version : which ABS sys, 93 K1100
which ABS system does this bike have? Last didgets of the serial number are 0300950.
The ABS lights are flashing in unison. The resistance check of the front and rear sensors shows good continunity. Battery voltage is good as battery is new.
Also does anyone know of a write-up to check out the ABS system using a multi-meter?

There is lots of K tech on the IBMWR.org website on the tech pages. There is a way listed on that site to read fault codes with a meter.
Flashing like that is normal at startup. You have to hit both the front brake and the back brake, then start moving and the lights should stop flashing. If one of your brake switches is not working, then the flashing may continue.

If it has a big round cylinder mounted by the swingarm - one on each side I believe - it is ABS I. If the entire ABS unit is under the tank and only the lines protrude and run to the wheel calipers, master cylinders, etc then it is ABS II. I'm pretty sure the '93 was ABS I, but don't remember what the actual change in Mfgr date was.
If I remember correctly, the ABS and alternator were upgraded late in the 1993 model year. Paul is quite right, if you have the visible ABS coffee cans you've ABS I.
Brian Curry has a great ABS I tech piece on the IBMWR site Here (http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech/abs-diagnostics.shtml), and the whole IBMWR K-Bike tech pages are Here (http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech.shtml). Anton Largerdier also has a nice compendium Here (http://www.largiader.com/abs/absfault.html).
Edit - here is ABS I:
