Over in the Club Forum, there is a thread about interesting encounters people have had - the crux being loud pipes. BMWRich58 pointed out that BMW Riders don't change pipes, they add electronics. So what have you added to yours?
Mine has...
Garmic[list=1]
Garmin GPS V on a RAM Mount, connected to a custom installed dash accesory socket
Hyperlights on the rear for visibility
CD Player Power Supply from the "Radio" area
Hopefully soon an AutoCom system

On the latest bike that I am building which is a replica of the German Autobahn polizei bike it will have the following electronics:
1. Sony CDX-MP70 (radio, CD, MP3 capable)
2. Sony Marine remote (for radio, etc.)
3. Delphi XM SkyFi (satellite radio)
4. Nokia waterproof GSM phone (5100)
5. Yaesu VX7R (waterproof scanner, ham radio)
6. Valentine V1 (remote mounted, waterproof)
7. Valentine V1 (hidden display and audio)
8. Garmin mount for either GPS V or GPS III+
9. Code 3 Police LEDs w/power supply (qty 4)
10. Whelen PAR36E (emergency strobes)
11. Baehr Ultima XL - communication system
12. Uniden BCT-12 police scanner
13. Apple iPod (waterproof mounted)
14. CO-220 rear telescopic strobe w/light
15. Hella HID driving and fog lights (one ea.)
16. electronically monitored tire pressure
17. run-n-lites (manually controllable w/switch)
18. headlight flasher (man. control switch)
That's it for now. I might eventually have a front/rear Stalker VG2 radar gun and/or one or two other things but that's it for now.
As for my other bikes they're fairly plain except for the F650's which all have either the Touratech IMO-100Rs or the IMO50Rs and motorized roadbooks.

Dave,
You forgot the keg of beer. All German Autobahn polizei bikes recently got this option.:bliss
They're a happier bunch and not handing out as many slow driving tickets.

Ok, I'll play...
On the K
V1 (Ram mount)
GPS V (Ram mount))
On the GS
V1 (Ram Mount)
GPS V (Touratech mount, after I killed in with a Ram off road)
That's it for electronics. Now if we're talking gadgets and accessories, that's another story :evil

Garmin StreetPilot (monochrome) on a ram mount with a home made bracket to hold the GPS unit and an additional power socket for it.
I carry my laptop in the right case and have a power socket in there to recharge its battery.

K1200LT:
Autocom ProM1
Garmin StreetPilot III
Passport 8500 (will be going to a V1 in the future)
Delphi SkyFi
Apple iPod
Kenwood FRS
Nokia 6360
Note: Passport and SP III mounted on RCU Shelf (but will pick CoPilot from BMR Products next time)
I can run the most of the stuff (iPod, SP III, Delphi) on my Autocom AVM on my K1200RS (actually, it's the one my wife never lets me ride because she won't go buy her own bike) :D

I've added these electric/electronic items to my r1200c
Garmin eMap on a RAM mount
Voltage indicator light
Small AM/FM radio
iPod
AutoCom Pro M1 intercom
Compaq iPaq
Headlight modulator
Taillight modulator
Lite-Buddies inside rear turn signals
LED strips above and below license plate
Gerbings connection for heated clothing
and of course, the ubiquitous cell phone.

My BMW has absolutely no added electronics / electrics. I don't have any desire to add any either, though I may add a pigtail for my heated vest, but maybe not (I usually am on the Hayabusa when I use the vest, so its wired). Oh, the exhaust on the BMW F-650 is not stock, the canister "fell off" and it's pretty loud. :D

For my 1150gs:
I admit to having a streetpilot III color on a Touratech bar mount. (I try not bringing it on sat am rides - sick of the jokes about getting lost 20 miles from home etc.)
I added an additional BMW power socket (aka Adventure)
on the left side faring. Also PIAA's on a CBT oil cooler grill thingie with euro- switch.
Thinking about autocom proM1 for me and passenger. Waiting for
more comments from other users.
And that's enough electric do-dads for me to worry about.

Additional accessory outlets
PIAA 510s on EMP brackets
LED brake light enhancement

*this really works. Worth the $150, in my opinion
Garmin StreetPilot ColorMap
coming: heated grips, intercom system (maybe Autocom)
K11LT/Sidecar
Euro headlight switch
Additional accessory outlets
Run'n'Lites in front
Extra sidecar lighting
Mount for Garmin GPS (see above)
Heated grips
coming: mount for Passport & H.A.R.D.; intercom system

OMG, I've never listed all of them out before... Maybe the wife is right!??!
Here's what I have (so far) for the LT:
1. Priority Plus brake modulator that uses the stock turn signals as running lights.
2. Kisan brake modulator for the rack LED brake light. (2 brake modulators are of different makes and flash out of synch. Probably will get rear-ended by someone who's had a seizure from looking at them!)
3. Motolights switched w/ Autoswitch on turn signal cancel.
4. Escort 7500 radar detector (hard wired) and HARD transmitter mounted on RCU shelf.
5. HARD receiver in helmet (strobes red LED in peripheral vision when radar detector goes off) VERY COOL in the twisties! Got it directly from Aaron at Legalspeeding.com
6. Garmin GPS V on RCU shelf.
7. 2 Pryme headsets and harnesses for Kenwood FRS radios.
8. BMW heated vest
9. Sony P5 digital camera (once I get the RAM camera base mount and EXPENSIVE Sony waterproof housing) mounted on Cyclegadgets RAM mount in unused, right mirror hole.
10. Low beam HID kit from Raffy on K12LT site. (best upgrade BY FAR) :thumb
Under consideration:
Bob's running lights
PIAAs mounted under oil cooler switched w/ standard Autoswitch on HI/LOW beam switch.

1. Garmin 12Map, soon to be replaced with a recently purchased Garmin 176.
2. AirRider. (cheaper autocom)
3. Motorola T6300 Talkabout.
4. Valentine V1.
5. Motolights.
6. PIAA 1100s w/ez mount (under oil cooler)
7. Light Buddies.
8. Kisan Tailblazer.
9. Kisan headlight modulator.
Soon to come - Ipod.
Wasn't riding a lot simpler once?
On my R1100RSl I have two hard wired leads for a Garmin GPS V and a Valentine 1. I have ordered two mounts from Saeng not yet installed. I tried a R.A.M. Mount but was unhappy with that, then a gps only mount from Wudo(?) couldn't see the unit over the tankbag and it was not adjustable. Hopefully these mounts will do the trick. Anyone have experience/positive things to say about Saeng? In the future I would like to add Motolights foward and hyperlights rear.

'92 K75S with:
- Gorilla motion/ignition/tilt alarm
- Working on way to mount driving lights, haven't yet found the perfect solution (i.e., that doesn't spoil the lines of the bike)

I've got a 97 K1100LTB that I rode cross country from the Redmond Oregon rally back to Albany, NY. My Garmin Street Pilot (Monochrome) was mounted using velcro on the steering yoke. - worked OK, but not perfect.
That was 2001 -
Now I just bought a RAM round base, small extension and Street Pilot mount and Garmin power adapter to BMW plus. Total investment like $60.00.
I Purchased come Stainless Steel bolts, washers and nylon insert lock nuts from a local hardware store and mounted the RAM base on the right fairing pocket cover near the top. I instinctively look right, so it is the best place for me. You might want to consider the left fairing pocket if you don't have a radio since you have to be careful of the front brake resevoir getting hit in low speed manuvers if it's in the wrong position. i then used silicone caulk on the inside to seal the bolt holes...
Looks like it will do just great - not as nice as a shelf, but VERY functional and inobtrusive.
BTW - any K1100LT riders going to the Charleston Rally????

2002 K1200RS is equipped with only a Valentine 1 radar detector mounted on a K-mount (K-mount sold through motorcycleradar.com). Radar unit is direct wired to the parking light power source. Very clean system. Valentine 1 performance is second to none!

On my K100 RS I'm about to install my V1 w/ Hard System (http://www.legalspeeding.com/product.htm) on a accessory shelf (http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=KRSSHELF). I also plan to mount my Garmin III+ next to it. I'm still trying to decide on a good way to get power to these devices and I'm open to suggestions.
I'm also toying w/ getting a Delphi Sky Fi XM radio (http://www.xmradio.com/catalog/product_detail.jsp?id=28449&type=Tuner) but since I don't currently have a radio (and don't plan on adding one) I'm at a loss on how to get audio to my helmet. I have had XM in my cage for a little less than 6 months and I love it and think it would be cool to have it on my bike. I'm heading to Sturgis at the end of the month and XM would sure be nice to have on that trip...

On my '93 K1100LT:
Fuel Plus trip computer - www.fuelplus.com
K-TAIL-2 rear tailight enhancement - doubles the effective size of brake light
Wilburs rear shock
PIAA H4 headlight
Airhawk air seat
OK. So the only electronic gadget is the Fuel Plus.
I love all of it except the PIAA lamp. Too many years with a 55/100?

Greetings,
I wanted to chime in when this thread started but decided to wait until after the rally.
Here is a list of some of the electronics on my K11LT.
J&M intercom system with cell phone, CB and radar wired to helmet with custom mic.
CB with Wilson NG 4 antenna
Motarola Star Tac tri mode phone with car mount kit for external power wired into J&M system. Wilson No Ground truckers antenna.
Valentine 1, mounted inside left pannier lid with remote visual and audio to override cicruit on J&M system
Garmin V GPS on custom mount hardwired to bike with Garmin remote marine antenna.
Garmin B&W Street Pilot on custom mount hardwired to bike.
Getac CA25 ruggedized tablet PC The secret weapon (http://www.getac.com/product/RuggedTablet/ca25/ca25_feature.htm) powered by a 110w inverter hardwired to bike through waterproof breaker which can be seen in the lower right of the picture. Data from Garmin GPS V (NMEA) to waterproof serial port on tablet provided real time postion information which worked great with delorme street atlas.
Radio Shack egg timer with two countdown timers (up to 99 hrs)
Voltmeter
There ya go, everything but music (which I didn't want).
Best,
NikonJeff

K12RS with a simple set-up.
V1 and audio remote Velcro'd to tank bag hard wired through the BMW Tank bag electrification kit.
Portable CB attached to the tank bag using headset from Sierra Electronics and Fire Fly 4 foot (light weight Firestick) no ground plane antenna tuned to better than 1.1 to 1 SWR (20 inch loop in extra cable under the seat is biggest factor in tuning). Also wired to electrification kit.
V1 is heard through "Koss- The plug" ear speakers ($20 at Best Buys), included soft plugs removed (they don't eliminate enough wind noise) and holes to hear melted with hot paper clip in my drug store disposables.
This allows me to use the headset for CB and ear plugs for V1 and not use a very expensive mixer like the J&M or the Autocom.
Some sort of driving lights from Sport Touring Accessories
Flashing LED brake lights.. yeah, Hyperlights
High center brake light on Givi top box
All electronics on tank bag as rain cover protects and all comes off the bike easily at motel etc.
If I were to add other audio such as music, I would add the Mixit and run V1 plus others through it to the earplug speakers.
I do not have a GPS as it would be below my sight line too far and I want to live.

I have a Valentine 1. Hey, did I mention that the only electronic peripheral I have is a Valentine 1. The V1 has been serving the need for 9 years.
You know that anything else is unnecessary clutter (read junk).
If I want to listen to my S/O while riding, I might as well stay at home on the porch. I don't need no stinkin' GPS. 6 years of longhaul trucking in a previous life cures you of the need. Especially, when they don't exist.
Besides, a paper map is good fung shui.

You may want to upgrade you V1 if yours is 9 years old. The new one is smaller and has better reception on KA and K band.

Guess I'm not too equipped compared to some. I've got a GPS on the bike and an Autocom in the tank bag. I'm afraid to put a radar detector on, because I already ride too fast sometimes-that would only encourage poor behavior. My iPod is not permanent, but I soon hope to wire the built in radio/CD player to the autocom. Just need time to take off bunches of plastic to get to the speakers.

i havd a ram mount for my garmin IQ 3600. I love it. used it this weekend to find a friends house in Hockessin, Delaware, rode out Friday, home last night. Also have Gerbings heated jacket liner and glove liners, best thing that happened to me since gore tex. Got them in February and the only thing that has kept me off the road is ice. would like to add lights, front and rear, and while not electronic am thinking about a better saddle, and lowered pegs.
All these BMW riders with radar detectors, I'm shocked, shocked that Gambling is allowed here :brad, uh, i mean that people on motorcycles speed.

On the bike:
- BMW Navigator II Plus (Mottorad Concept mount)
- Battery monitor LED
- Modified garage door opener so that I can press a neat little button and get my baby in the garage.
- Blue-Sea Fuse box for accessories power distribution (PIAA, unswitched socket, tank-bag, spares)
Tank bag contains a triple 12 VDC power outlet unit : IPOD, Motorolla cell phone, Mixit amplifier so I can listen to music and hear directions from the GPS.

I bought a Garmin in the spring of 2004, because I figured I couldn't make it across the country without one. I have a poor sense of direction. I relied on it heavily. In August of 2005, I picked up my GT in Cleveland and had no way to mount the GPS. I got home just fine. I still don't have a mount for it on the GT (I'm not looking for one), and I'm actually happy about it. The best navigation tool I have is a dry erase marker.
This weekend we went up through VT and Quebec. Garmin was shut off most of the trip (on the K75). And when I did use it, it was because I needed a compass. That's an expensive compass. I jotted down potential route numbers on my windshield with the dry erase, far less distracting than Garmin pushing me to every highway it can find. I did use Garmin to find a Dunkin Donuts. But I'm starting to feel like a reformed GPS user. "Hi, my name is Gail, and I haven't used my GPS in 13,000 miles." :D

I think, though, it's because you were in an area that you know reasonably well. I find the Garmin to be a big help in places where I don't know the area so well. Also, I find the audio prompts to be very helpful and less distracting than trying to watch the thing the whole time. If I'm doing a specific route, the audio prompts really help ensure that I don't miss a turn.

i really like my garmin because i'm an investigator and have to find specific addresses. I just put it in and the prompts get me right where I need to go. I have mounts in both my car and on the bike and use sound suppressing ear buds on the bike. I have loaded most of the NE United States onto a card I can add to the unit which gives me every street in PA, VA, DC Maryland, WVA, Delaware, NY and MA. I also have an mp3 player on the unit which allows me to download music from my computer, it also serves as an address book, and note pad. The only drawback us that the IQ 3600 is not waterproof so i don't use it on the bike in the rain. This doesn't mean I still don't like maps, I do as well as just wondering around lost on purpose.

XM in the tankbag
Garmin 60Cx with a 1 gig card on the bars.
I've been using the 60Cx and City Select V7 for a couple of weeks. This small unit rocks !!!!!

Gadget Freaks. "Hello I'm Bill and I'm a......"
So easy to get too much stuff.
I like the "hidden" stuff: The Kissan Signal Minder and the amber bulbs...Butt I tend toward the rediculous. Trying for minimalism on this bike.
I know I'll "need" the XM. So I went with the XM2go so I can forget the power cord and antenna.
During the clean up, it looks like this:

...so I "really need" this. And I use a strange box in between the ear plugs and both XM and detector (which is run by a 9V battery) so I can hear the bleeps when the Valentine "bogies".
Naturally, I use the only ear plugs that make sense....YMMV, butt shouldn't. 8^)

Not a lot of electronics really, but what I have functions well:
1. Garmin GPS III+
2. Garmin Streetpilot III
3. Valentine 1
4. Motolights
5. Pilot pencil beam driving lights.
6. Not electronic - Jaz 3 Gallon Econorail Fuel Cell
7. Power Outlets: BMW Accessory Plug, 2 ASA 2-pole for GPSs, 1 ASA 2 pole for Warm'nSafe Heatroller jacket controller, 1 for V1, one ASA 2 pole spare, one lighter style outlet inside the top-box for phone, laptop, etc.
