I would like to attend a tech day with my 1150RT so I can learn how to adjust the valves, etc. on my RT.

Any tech days that you know of in Illinois?

My mechanical abilities begin and end at knowing the working end of a screwdriver. Doesn't mean I won't be willing to do what I can and learn all I can. Also I think this would be a great opportunity to meet some fellow BMW riders in the vicinity.
Looking forward to it.

Thanks for the interest.

I have even asked our local dealer if they are interested. I got some yah, but upper management said no.

I will keep asking around for a mechanic. I know a real good mechanic, but he does not have BMW experience.

Even though my bike is in the shop for 12K service I would still want to help organize and this event and learn some.

A BMW meeting is held locally on the 2nd Thursday of each month (8/9). I will attend and ask around.

Seems like there are lots of comments and advises but no concrete places and dates. As most of you know, valve adjustment has to be done when motor is cold. It would have to be done at someone's house. Changing oils, motor, tranny and rear end are not hard and can be done easily. Lets just set the time and place sometime in mid august at someone's house and do it.

OK?

I do have a big garage, but only a modest set of tools at best and I am by no means a mechanic. Only had my R since last Sept. and only completed one 24K fluid change.

Also I am way out in the middle of no where in a town of 550 people. 60 miles south of Rockford and 15 miles west of IL 39 on Rt.34.

I'll leave it up to you guys, I can host it but it would still be nice to have a mentor to show us the ropes.

Nearest reasonable pizza is Pizza Hut - 8 miles east in Mendota.

My Aug. schedule so far:

Sat Aug 4th - Children's Miracle Network Ride & Gina's BMW Stop
Sun Aug 5th to Wed Aug 8th - In Cincinnati OH on business

I think Aug. 18th or 19th works best.

I was looking forward to this get together but it is time to visit the folks back in Franklin, MA. Hopefully we can have another one of these early in the fall.

For reference the next time I have done my valves a few times, Throttle body synch once and of course all of the oils changed often. The one thing that I want to do this year is change my brake fluid which sounds fairly easy when listening to Paul Glaves. How does a brake fluid tech day sound? I guess I should wait until after this one before I start giving ideas for the next one huh?:rocker It is hard to sit hear and listen to all of you having fun ya know.

I am still tentative.. might going out ot town. Will know for sure by Wed.

If I can make it I will not need any work done at this point. Just had my 12K done two weeks ago. I can bring some $ to contribute to the fun time. I can bring the camera as well.

If we can everyone's bike done early enough and clean up your place... maybe there will some time left for a ride?

I'm sorry I committed to attend and did not show.

My furry companion of 17 years (A Manx cat named IMSA) has been battling renal failure for some time now and Friday dawned with him in the worst shape I've seen. I made the decision to end his suffering and made the appointment to let him go. The vet came to my house house did his thing and all of sudden I'm alone.
This was the most difficult thing I have ever done. I have no children and a VERY small family so I feel as though I've lost a son.:cry

I hope there will be other opportunities to meet up in the future.

Hey Glenn, I am so sorry to hear that. My wife and I have no kids, 4 dogs, 2 cats, which means there is 8 of us in bed at night. I can't even think of even one of them not being with us forever. It's not the same life as everyone else but it works perfectly for us. I know where you are with this and I am sorry for your loss. We will make sure to have another get together before the end of the season to ensure you are there.

Our last "pup" made it to 17yrs also. It was a great time, but it is always very hard to say goodbye. We must try to meet some time this season.

The FIRST thing I did when I got back today was check out this thread and it looks like you guys had a great time!:dance

The food looks great as well as the "few" that seemed to be working:whistle

I sure hope that I am in town the next time one of these events occur. My hats off to the host for braving the event and having it turn out to be a great time held by all.:clap
