I broke the latching (orange metal lock) mechanism and need to replace it . Bag closes and it is secure to ride, but can not be locked. I looked inside of the bag and foud that the mechanism is riveted instead of screwd. Where can I get that little orange lock? Do dealers sell those? Thanks.

Try taking a look at the exploded diagrams on one of the dealer's web pages. Start with your model bike and drill down. If it is available as a separate part, the diagrams will give you the part number.

Good hunting.

This is kind of a "wink wink knudge knudge know-what-I-mean" thing but lots of times dealers will have these laying around from wrecks. Might be able to get a used one for a few clams then just have it re-keyed.

The rivets are easy if you are at all mechanically savvy.

In the link from the previous post there's a step by step guide including pictures to make this repair for about 40 to 50 bucks. good luck. It's very easy and shouldn't take more than an half hour your second time around. Everything takes longer the first time, so don't become discuraged.

Thanks to all for your replies, I did get a part from bmw for $46 and installed it myself in 45 min, nothing to it. Funny thing, dealer told me it will take me around 4 hours to do it.

Good Job :clap and welcome to the club!:thumb

If you ever have to do it again, it will be less than thirty minutes. It makes you wonder what the dealer would have charged?:hungover

Thnaks DJ,
Everything looks harder first time around. I broke the latch myself and my mistake cost me $46, live and learn.
