I have a 2003 R1150RT and I need to do some repair work on my dash and mirror casing. The dash has a one inch chip out of the lower corner and the mirror-casing has a similar chip. The damage happened during a dead-stop fall-over and instead of breaking away the mirror and dash chipped each others' lower corners off.:banghead
So I bought this book "How to Repair Plastic Bodywork" by Kurt Lammon. While I haven't attempted the repair yet, the book looks excellent and even if I don't attempt the job myself, I will feel considerably more confident selecting someone to do it for me.
The first question I need to answer is what types of plastic are involved. The book suggests that it might be one of:
ABS
PC + ABS
PA or PA+PPE
SMC, UP, FRP
I could just dissemble the bike so that I could read the ID symbols which I expect are marked on the inside of the parts, but that seemed like an awful lot of work compared to posting a question on the Forum!:type
If you happen to know what the plastic type of the dash is (the mirror interior looks like it's the same) can you let me know?
And, if you have actually done any plastic repair, I'd love to get some advice; even if it's just "find someone who knows what their doing!".
Thanks, Mark
