The gear indicator on my 02 R1150 RT has gone south It is only right in neutral and 6th gear anything else it is either a 1 or a 0 sometimes I see other numbers flash quickly when shifting. Could this have been caused by riding in the rain (it started to act up just as I got out of the rain) If not is it a fairly easy fix or will I have to remove something large (trans/rear end) to fix it.
I did a search but did not find an answer to my questions.

The input to the indicator is a digital signal on three wires - singly or in combination. Rain can cause the fault if water gets into either the display unit or the connector in the wiring harness. Hope for the wiring connector.
Look for a bundle that comes from just forward of the swingarm up to the frame on the left side - under the left edge of the seat. Disconnect and clean and dry this connector. The problem is likely to go away.

The sender switches on the back of the transmission are also prone to failure causing the problems you describe. Try the connections first since its the easier fix. If it persists, you may have to replace the switch which requires removing the swingarm.

Just to let you know, it was just wet. Dried out and all works fine.
Thanks for the help.
