I have finally decided to purchase another motorcycle.
I am undecided whether to purchase a '93 1100lt, or a 88 goldwing 1500.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I have not owned a bike for a few years.

I would look at the mileage and the repair records.
Technology changes in five years. If the BMW has ABS that would be a factor for me.

I went to buy an OldWing about 3 years ago. It was sold when I finally got there, but the Sales guy showed me a ratty old '86 K100RT. 40,000 and some odd miles later I am gratefull the GW was sold. I had to fix a few things, put up with a few scratches and rattles, but as a daily commute, or an Iron Butt ride, I love it for one up riding.

I'd go for the BMW just because it's a newer model year.. plus i'm kinda partial about the brand:german

I would recommend the BMW. Honda's are great, I've has several, but for someone who hasn't ridden in a few years the GW is big and heavy and at that age, things begin to break.
Good luck

I have owned both brands. When you need parts, older Hondas are more difficult.
The Gold Wing thinks it is a car. The K bikes know they are motorcycles.
Let's see....asking which bike to buy in a BMW Forum; Hum? Having owned many Hondas including a "poor man's Gold Wing (CB 900c) and now riding a couple of Bmers, the choice is clear. You can ride a nice Gold Wing with reliability and a proven record. The bike would look noticeably old and possibly beaten, or ride a Bmer with equal reliability and a never out of date style. Does that clear thing up?

I know this was a stupid question to ask on a BMW forum. However, it was a honest one. I have decided to look at the 93 K1100LT today. I just was not familiar with the K bike at all. Years ago I owned a 84 r100 last edition, and I loved that bike.
I appreciate all the responses that I received.
If I purchase the bike I will post it.
Thanks to all,
Steve

I own a 93 K1100LT with now 102,000 miles. The K is smooth touring and very reliable on long distances as well. The gas mileage is a factor as well. Make sure the ABS works and you know what to buy.
Honda builds great bikes, don't get me wrong but the K1100LT is a beauty and I know you will love this bike.

How tall are you? The K11LT is one top heavy bike. If you've been out of riding for a few years, it may be a handful. If you have the budget of say $4,000, there may be other options for you. Maybe the fully faired touring bike should come a season or two after you get warmed up again about motorcycling. Time to sign up for a refresher course too!
Do you have an idea of what type of riding you might be doing? Solo or two up? Camping? Riding around town or around the country? Cold weather and hot? All these factors should be considered in picking out your next bike.
