I have a 1991 K75s with 51,000 miles. The vents on my gas tank are leaking. The BMW repair shop has told me that the tank has been repaired several times and that a new tank is needed. The repair consisted of welding the vents and vibrations have caused the welds to break. The repair shop suggests replacing it with a new tank. An unpainted new tank will cost approximately $900. Any suggestions on how to repair it or where I can find a refurbished tank.

Keep a lookout here: http://beemerboneyard.com/k756.html
Search on ebay too.
You could always look for a good welder that will do TIG welding on the aluminum tank.
My friend got a leak fixed for $60.

The vents on a new tank are TIG welded. Beemer Boneyard has tanks in the $200 range, I think. I repaired 3 seem leaks on my K100 with rotary tool grinding to unpainted aluminum and JB Weld. Has held for 8 months and 7000 miles.
I would look for a cracker jack welder. Do not attempt to have welder weld the tank not experienced in welding fuel tanks. Possible EXPLOSION.

I used JB Weld to repair a pin hole leak in the bottom of my tank. That was 4 years ago and still holding. I take the tank off and clean out the inside every couple of years. The repair still looks/feels good.
