After a solid year of riding with my wife on our '06 R1200RT, I am getting tired of rubbing off the boot scuff marks created by the both of us when we dismount the trusty steed. Certainly, if we remember to be careful, we kick our legs high enough to clear them but sometimes you forget or get too excited over the area and scuff them up. After a long ride and/or trip it always is a job to clean them up. Any suggestions would be welcome.:dunno

Sargent Cycle Products - the seat makers - have covers for the bags - nylon stretch sort of things. These effectively make the bags scuff proof - or at least hide the scuffs you have. About $90 for a pair of them.
I'm trying to convince them to make them for the Hexhead bags - which are even higher and wider than the Oilhead bags.

I will check on line shortly, thanks for the info. . .
I will let everyone know what I find because I am sure that is a common problem for these color matched bags on the bikes.
Great rally again in Spearfish, S.D.

Sargent Cycle Products have what they call Case Protectors for $89.95. Go to sargentcycle.com or call 1-800-749-7328.
Anyone have any experience with them, we would appreciate the information.:dunno

I too have a problem scuffing my saddlebags with my heels. I've found that Mister Clean Magic erasers remove the scuff marks with very little effort. I've had mt RT for a little over a year 15,000 miles and so far I don't see any ill effect on the paint from using the magic eraser. Ron

I use clear acrylic floor wax on my side bags. Been doing it for several years. Initially, after a thorough cleaning, I applied a heavy coat with a rag & then hand buffed it out after it dried. It still scuffs, but polishes up quickly with Armor All & a rag.

I like to keep my '04 RS as clean and neat as possible but I kind of like the scuff marks on the cases. God knows that I would love to ride more than my schedule allows so the scuff marks are a kind of a "badge of honor" to me. In fact I wish they were covered with scuff marks. This is not a put down but a personal observation.

Bobbie - bring 'em by. I can help you out.
:lol
I do know what you mean - my bike is begining to exhibit a nice 'patina of age'. I like it.

Great ideas for the side cases. My wife said "No" to the Case Protectors. She thought they are not "pretty enough". So "heavyjetpfe" I will get the Mister Clean Magic Erasers and maybe wax it up. Those two together might be the trick.:bolt
Thanks guys. . .

It may be a little extreme but my solution was to have them sprayed with Linex (the truck bed liner stuff).
Now I don't have to worry about dents, dings, or scuff marks and they look good too. Pm me if you want to see a picture.

Gpodzo:
I have the same scuff marks on my R1150 RT's trunk and saddle bags and I have tried several exotic (read expensive) cleaners on them. (No, I haven't tried cloth covers of truck-bed-liners yet.) My best results have come from regular, old, cheap Amour-All! They "shine-up" like new, hold that deep-black luster and clean-up quickly after a "rain-ride." For a $5 bottle, try it for a week and see what you think.

Alot of good info from you guys. The Mister Clean Magic Erasers from heavyjetpfe really did the job to clean them up. Then I waxed them really well. ArmourAll would work on the black systems cases but not sure on those color match cases on the 06 RT. Contacted "Clear Bra" and they could install a clear like contact paper on the top of the outside of each case exactly where the scuffs occur, that might do the trick. I will let you know after the Colorado Clubs 100,000 foot ride the first of August.
Thanks again for all the imput.:deal
