I have a '97 K1100LT. I have been smelling gas lately and can find no sign of any leakage. I suspect the fuel cap seals. I have the seals but I can't figure out how to replace the smaller, inner seal. It's the one about 2 1/2 inches in diameter about 1/2 way up(down) the inner dome shaped plastic part. It is backed by a thin steel? washer and has two blue O-rings. It appears that the 'dome' comes apart, but I can't figure out how. This close to the National I am afraid of breaking something, so I put it back together.

Can anyone explain the secret?

Thanks
Rod

howdy,
I have had the same problem. Figured maybe the hoses for over fill or the expansion of fumes in the gas tank tubes was pinched.
Hot weather will make the gas expand real quick!
I try not to fill the tank too much when riding around town. If on the road then I figure the fuel is getting used.
