Have you ever been attracted to a place just because of its name? In these parts Klickitat holds a certain mistique that finally got my curiousity piqued. We rode Hwy 14 from Portland along the Columbia River Gorge. Once at Lyle we headed North on Hwy 142 along the Klickitat River to downtown metropolitan Klickitat. We found two things interesting about Klickitat itself, the river road that got us there & the cool sign at the outskirts of town. Still, it was a 265 mile big adventure on a beautiful 80 degree sunny day so all was not lost.

Klickitat, this Sunday. Mrs L pointed out the name and we had to take a look at the place, so yes, very yes indeed Bob. Did we see you perhaps, we were two up on a black GS?
Most of my trip across the US was based on exactly that formula of 'that sounds like a place I'd like to visit based on the name.

I need you to do me a favour. My pics of MT Hood in front and Mt Adams? in rear view mirror haven't come out well at all, neither did the video. Just out of Hood River on the 35, not too far down the road by a fruit farm, there's a spot where this happens. Next time you are that way, can you stop and take a better picture than I did please?

The more I look the more I remember passing you on the 14, we were going towards Vancouver, I think we passed near Beacon Rock when I was stuck behind a truck for several miles.
It's the combination of the two bikes that struck me at the time.

In response to your request I give you my storage site for all of my photos -- http://rmielke.photosite.com . There's an entire section just on mountaina and each photo gives the name of the mountain. You're welcome to use any of them. I've been on Hwy 35 already 4 times this year and don't know how many more trips I'll take this season.

Bob, thanks. I took a look and the particular shot I'm after isn't there. There's Hood facing you and Adams behind. It only happens for about 1/4 mile on the 35.
If you've done four trips and a fifth doesn't materialise, I'll live with the images in my head. They are more vivid than a photo anyway.
I'll see if I can do something clever with the video we shot, that may salvage the need for a recorded copy.
Some very nice shots though Bob.
That bridge doesn't seem to have anything to stop you falling off it, or any means of travelling across it (road or tracks) what's going on there?

Sheesh Lamble - if there was ever an excuse to go for a ride, you have it here. So what if you were there this past weekend? Go again - just take a different route!
I can't believe I'm giving this advice to you, one of the main proponents on this site for getting out and riding the road less traveled :)
If you want some company, I'll go with you this time!

The reason I was there this weekend was because I'd been there the weekend before and the helmet cam didn't get the images I expected, so Mrs L was recruited to take shots from the pillion seat. In fairness, she did a better job than I had, just not what I wanted.
I think three weekends on the trot is a little much.
If you get this way, try Spanish Coffee at Barlow's Saloon The Dalles. Limited to two per night.
