ok so dont hate me, i dont have a bmw bike, nor would i ever chop one up for my creation. but i have heard that a vw engine can be mated to a bmw tranny and used in a bike.

im wanting to build a street legal ATV, with 2 wheels in the front and one in the back. i want a 1600 cc vw engine, because vws are my hobby, and i need some sort of tranny and final drive combination?

has anyone ever heard of mating a vw engine to a bmw tranny or any other tranny?

please help, and please take it easy on all the joking and critizing.;)

thanks,

neil

I am not sure if any one has done to the new trans. The /2 trams had lot of VW attached to them.

Hope you can get it done. If you have the engine and the trans IMHO you should beable to find a machinest who could help build one.:bliss

Look on the last page in the latest issue of Rider. My understanding is that it isn't a direct bolt-up but it can be done. There's a guy in CA named Duane Ausherman who used to be the SF area dealer long ago and he built just such a beast and it still lives in his barn despite having not been ridden in years. I'l give you a pic (that ran in a newspaper about thirty years ago):
