View Full Version : Who is Trinity?

Just curious, with all this discussion about moderation and administration, who is Trinity?

It would seem to me to be appropriate that all of the BMW MOA Forum Moderators & Adminstrators be identifiable to the membership.

JMO.

Well, OK then.

We built Trinity about 6 months ago during the Jugheads assault (such as it was). We felt we needed a blind way to shut down threads without having the moderators have to take personal shots from folks that have had their thread locked.

A few of the moderators have access to the Trinity ID. So, the answer to your question is that nobody is actually Trinity.

I'm not a very religious person but I think the Trinity is The Father, The Son & The Holy Ghost. I'm not sure which of those three is responsible for closing dead threads here (perhaps they share the resposibility) but...wait a minute...did I completely misunderstand the question? :bliss

I wasn't even thinking of the movie, a women dressed in black leather riding a Ducati. Something about computers.

I thought about the Trinity Project, you know the thing to build the atom bomb. The Manhattan Project was the primary one, iirc the Trinity Project was the team actually responsible for loading the charge into the bomb itself.

Okay who believes that one?

Actually quite a few forums do this stuff, it is much the same way the Fletch wrote under the pseudonym Jane Doe. It is hard to be a member and a moderator cause it changes the way people deal with you.

IIRC, that's how the mods work anyway, right? I've been told that if there's a thread that needs killin, it gets at least a little bit of moderator discussion then the locks go on. Might as well reflect that, it's no big deal.

Freedom of speech is a pretty misunderstood concept anyhow (on web forums anyhow)- on other forums I've seen, anytime a mod shuts a thread down, people start hollering about fascism and how anti-American they are. Not the case- the mods are just picking up the trash. If you want to spout all day about the Chromeheads, that's fine- you just can't do it here. It's like somebody who, say, supports "Ralph Nader for President" suing me for not letting me put his signs in MY yard.

I think the mods do well- believe me, you don't want this board turning into a rubbish-tip. Aside from looking stupid, there is nothing more boring and useless than a 44 page flame war where the same arguments and personal shots get repeated over and over again.

If the "anonymous" part bugs people, maybe change the name to "near-unanimous group of moderators"? :dunno

Technically, you are correct. But, I think the concept that a forum is private property when it was created by an organization for it's members with it's members dollars might be flawed. On newsletters and email lists the need to clean up the trash is very real. Otherwise members unsub. But, on a forum such as this you can read only those threads that interest you. So what is the harm if 4 or 5 members post and repost the same argument on one thread? Of course the posting of insults and personal attacks are never justified.

I have seen the mods here lock 1 thread that had clearly run its course,in the ? year or so I have been a member.

Friend -- this thread started as a question regarding the identity of an anonymous Administrator, Trinity. It then became apparent that the purpose of Trinity was for anonymous thread killing. To me, anyway, that isn't "nothing."

Without saying anonymous thread killing is right or wrong, please let me say that I completely understand its purpose and it is different from how I would choose to handle it. Indeed, the existence Trinity incents me not to participate in our clubs forum. That will be my own personal decision. And it's not a complaint.

This certainly isn't saying that there aren't any threads that deserve killing.

So... since we're using movie metaphors here, please let restate my point by bending a line from a favorite movie of mine, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean:

"Threads need to be hung out in public, not in a barn like you're ashamed of it."

And that's JMO.

Kbasa,

where was this supposed Jughead "assault"? You people are just as incredible as AlanZ and his Chromeheads. You have all the posts, where was the assault? I remember it as one group of MOA members raising questions about another club and criticizing the way they operate. So don't blame your tactics of locking threads on some Jugheads scapegoat, that's pure nonsense and spin. Ridiculous, you people have become just like the Chromeheads, when the conversation doesn't go the way you deem fit, you come up with a anon moderator to do the dirty work. I always suspected Fish was trinity, that mutated miscreant always did seem a little light in his loafers to begin with...........

It is this exact approach of making personal attacks that is frowned upon. Even if someone else "started it", the high road is still the correct response (admittedly, I don't always pass this test).

If you'd prefer more of a saloon than a campfire, there are plenty of other forums where this kind of pointed bickering is welcome (and I participate in one of the more volatile). The BMW MOA forum is going to continue to strive to be a warm and welcoming place to all BMW enthusiasts. If you wish to continue attacking those that volunteer to keep this place up and running, perhaps you should go elsewhere.

And before you ask: yes, I consider both Daves (Fish and Kbasa) to be friends and some of the best people I've ever known. And, yes, I'm one of those people that work to keep this place functioning.

The ingredients are semi-traditional. Exactly how traditional, I don't know. Our preferred black & tan is made with Guinness and Harp.

Erin is sleeping, but I'll let her know how you feel. :)

Many places make them with Guinness and Bass. This is, IMHO, not even close to as yummy as the Guinness/Harp combo. Some places are very confused and make them with Guinness and a cider (what I'd call a "Black Velvet").

Just to save up enough hours, I am working when the plant is officially closed. So I think I have almost two and a half weeks at the moment and growing.

Plus I have lots of weekend favors I can call in.

I took it on my maiden voyage on my GS somewhere north of Ojai, CA on CA 33. It was an amazing amazing trip until the last day.

One of my favorite photos from the trip out on Soda Lake road a bit north of the earlier pic...

So let's start assembling your trip for you. :D

What's on your immediate list? Obviously the first goal is to get through the plains as fast as possible. Devil's tower, Grand Canyon, Grand Escalante, Badlands, Rocky Mt. NP? Soooo many things to see.

Part of the plan is to hit some of the Bradford locations on the way. (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1975) One in Minnesota, One in Illinois, Two in Iowa. Then the next one is Bradford Island... Somewhere in Oregon:p

Also avoid South Dakota. (http://www.bradfordbenn.com/MainSite/SouthDakota.cfm)

The way the schedule falls I may have as long as ten days to get out there. Wonder if anyone would be around for riding?

Great pics, man! You are very fortunate to have such a gift;
what I mean is that great pics originate in the eye and mind
of the beholder. Those of us burdened by more primitive genes
than your artistic ones are merely left to marvel at the
heightened sensitivities of those more evolved than ourselves.

I know who shot him! He was the bravest of them all.

BTW - thumbs up :thumb to the moderators of this forum. They do an excellent job keeping it fun & informative while warding off flaming-ranting-cyber-chaos. I find a little civility now & then is refreshing (like a good ride).

Hey now,

We had a very productive weekend here in St. Louis. Unfortunately I live in New England and the current weather conditions mean I will be spending the day here. This is far better than getting stranded in Pittsburgh although there could be some entertainment value :stick of being a rabid Pat's fan in Pittsburgh this afternoon.

Ok, so Trinity didn't actually make me a hat. Helen 2 Wheels likes to knit and she is producing one hat per meeting. The rest of the board felt that her first design had colors that would suit me best. Hold on tight for the photo, I finally have one that is even *worse* that the one I used for my position statement / bio in the last election issue of the Owners News.

Check me!

A big tip of the keyboard to my colleagues on the board for their efforts, a full report will be in the clubhouse as soon as we approve the minutes (conference call in early Feb). While we don't always agree (a good thing) we are able to present our differing views without animosity and after we are all done we like to go out and have some fun. A lot of work goes into our efforts, but there are good times and new friends to be found too. As always the board meetings are open and members are invited to attend.

Whaddya think? Black leathers and hand knit stocking caps! How moderate is THAT!!

I'll bet H2W would make him his own hat - provided he'd post the picture here. :D

Not sure I could do that... the little I know of this Flash person I'm thinking one of those Hannibal Lechter ski mask hats would be most appropriate... my cute, girly, wool hats might not be right... but if Flash wants some unreported swag I think I could come up with something!
