Hi all,

I have several questions to pose to the collective wisdom of the board:

1. How to flush the fuel tank of debri? There is not any rust but the vanilla colored paint is coming up due to the old varnishy gas left in the tank.

2. Better to have the tank coated inside? Who does that kind of work?

3. There are two fuel line like hoses that evidently form a vibration/wear barrier between the pump mount and the tank. How does one go about replacing those (as the varnish has made mush of them)?

TIA,
Dan

To clean the tank, I've always just siphoned as much gas out as possible, and mopped up the rest with paper towels. There should be no paint in the tank at all....it is bare aluminum.

The vibration damper for the pump mount is an actual molded rubber part. You will want to buy new ones from your dealer.

Thanks Jon,

The two split hoses are between the pump frame and the tank sidewall. My guess is that if these can be replaced it will be a matter of beating up hands and fingers, and language control.

There is a coat of paint on the inside lower rear of this tank. No idea why.

Maybe someone has tried to repair it once? You might have to go in there with some JB Weld and re-do their work.

There is a liquid used by the antique tractor restoration people to restore old gas tanks. First the tank is cleaned by putting water and detergent and some old bolts & nuts into the tank and shaking. Rinse thoroughly and let dry. After fixing any leaks, pour a creamy liquid called "Kreem" into the tank, slosh around then drain. After drying a few days, the tank can be used. There are other brands of the liquid available. I used it to restore the gas tank on a 1958 Wheel Horse garden tractor.

Thanks.

Most likely the tank has been restored some time in the past. I googled and found that a radiator shop can acid wash the inside of the tank. Then I will use the "Kreem".

Again thanks.
