Route from Hannibal,MO to rally?

well, was persuaded last night to use the rest of my vacation up prior to retiring in October....SO.......here we come!!wasn't THAT hard though!!:clap

have route in mind up to Hannibal ,MO on Hwy 19.It seems to be the start of I-72. Any Illini riders have a fun/as slab free as possible route thru your state to the rally site? We are staying in Beaver Dam also on Hwy 33 east of the rally.

About 7 years ago, I road up to Minnesota for a family reunion. I made a stop to visit other family in St. Louis. I picked up the Great River Road in Hannibal, MO, and road the east side up through Wisconsin and then into Minnesota. I came down the west side on the way home.

I'd suggest riding as much of that as you can before you have to peel off to West Bend. The Mississippi is a whole 'nuther thing up there as compared to the big wide muddy we see down here in the south. Pretty, green, people water skiing, house boats cruising the river...amazing...

North on you favorite parts of the Great River Road then turn east along the Wisconsin and some place around Portage break away from the river and into West Bend.

Wife and I are riding in from AZ on mostly 2-lane roads and had also planned on picking up the Great River Road around Hannibal, MO... glad to hear it is a scenic ride.

Any, "not to be missed" treasures on that route? A favorite park, cafe, or side road?

I laughed at 20774's comments about the big river and scenic...we rode out of Vidalia,LA on way to Lafayette along the Big river and the Atchafalaya a week ago...as near as 50 feet away in places , but with the levees, no view at all! I have great pics of corn & cotton and a levee!:rofl
