Dirtmerchant - Did you remove the yellow reflectors from the front fork legs? If so, how did you do it without scratching or gouging the legs?
Yes, they have double sided tape holding them on, just pulled them off with fingers, no tools used. I removed the R1200RT stickers from the sides of the fairing too, I'm going for a less is more theme.

If they're persistent, warm the adhesive a little with a hair dryer and "saw" behind them with monofilament fishing line.

Or dental floss. I'll be doing something like that to remove the leftover adhesive from the reflector Ms Deer knocked off before putting the new reflector on the bike.
Where I live, the inspections are quite thorough and would probably reject a recent bike without front reflectors. :rolleyes
I was reject last year for having a license plate frame...no insert...just the frame! :dunno

I'd like to replace the red reflectors on the side cases too. The metal-looking BMW emblems shown in BMW's advertising look better to me. Evidently in Europe and the rest of the world none of those reflectors are required.

I've officially had this bike for 2 years. For its birthday, it got its annual breakdown as I removed all the tupperware- stripped, cleaned, and waxed it for my spring cleaning. After 16,000 miles it still looks like it did when it was new... but with some farkles.

2011 purchased in April. Planning a trip to the black hills this month. Added navigator IV, Ilium highway pegs, Ilium handle bar risers, HP2 sports mirrors, Scala bluetooth, Ilium passenger sports board, touratech tank bag, and tourmaster select tail bag. With the appropriate apparel, I should be all set for the trip to SD. Very pleased with the increased comfort from Ilium highway pegs. Well worth the money.

Dust doesn't show on a silver bike..:whistle
Any photo taken in bright sunlight tends to look a little washed-out and flat, but it looks like he might have gotten lucky with the clouds and avoided that problem. Notice that the shadow under the bike is not very distinct. Colors are enhanced.
Having said that, it is also easy to achieve the same effect with photo software such as Irfanview or even what came with the camera, just by increasing contrast and enhancing the colors. I always do that with any photo I intend to post on line. Doesn't make it fake, and it just looks better.

I guess that's my point. I don't think it does look better. It looks unnatural, akin to what you're suggesting about altering settings to achieve a certain look....something degrees different from natural. Not saying it's wrong to do that....just sayin'.

What I seeoto, in the Moab, UT photo, is a little overuse of saturation but, mostly, of what is called Unsharp Mask, whis is used to emphasize contrast at the pixel level, to accentuate delineation of details. Overuse can give a look of such precision and contrast in the details (more than the human eye can actuelly see in real life) that the overall feeling gets artificial. That, plus the use of a moderate wide angle lens, also gives the background as much precision as the foreground, so it looks as much in focus, and it is not very natural. But, hey, photo retouching is also a form of art, thus it is a subjective matter.

Thank you!
No filter, just some trickery post production. Specifically "painting" in the B+W effect, leaving the yellow line and yellow headlight untouched.
Very simple once you learn how to do it.
I use Apple Aperture software, lots of free Apple video tutorials to learn how do apply effects like this.

Thank you guys!
I love taking photos of my bikes! Hardly an Ansel Adams, but he would have wanted to capture the gorgeous essence of the hexhead too!
Here's another one from yesterday, this time with Nancy riding it.

I'm not exactly sure what your point is. :scratch
I already posted exactly how I made this photo, before you felt the need to point out the obvious assumption I was using computer software to apply effects to my images.
This is the thread to post photos of hex head motorbikes, yes?
If you'd like to discuss my post processing technique's you can easily find some of my photos in the Photography Section to comment on, there it might be a more appropriate place to continue your interest in how I create B+W effected images. ;)
Thank you Ed! It was a peaceful night with the campground empty and a nice fire.
Hey roamingbeemer, is that photo of yours recent?
I keep hearing how you folks in Colorado aren't getting much snowfall this year.... bad for some people, but very good for me for spring time travel with my GS on routes that go over some passes that can stay closed till July due to snow. :dance

Hi Lostrider,
You asked if that picture in Colorado was recent. It was taken just a few days before that last snow storm which started on February 2nd. I was riding to the east of Colorado Springs on the many dirt roads available. The passes would be ice and cold. I had several days of highs near 60 degrees F while I was home in Colorado. I get back to Colorado only once every 2 months since I work overseas and I take advantage of any days above freezing and sunny. I was able to ride almost every day I was home in January. Nice Photos and I need to read up on some photography. I am getting interested now.

That year RT has always been really attractive to me. I just love the way the head nestles into the sidepanels. Great color too!

Nice spring weather, so went for a ride.
Well I guess I should post a picture of the new with the old. Ordered the 2012 on 12/30/11 and it arrived in mid-March. I am still waiting for the topbox to be painted and have a Rick Mayer seat due about June 1. Color me gone in August & September. I'll post a new photo after I ride it somewhere decent.

thanks Ray I was going to delete it & try again. This is my 2nd BMW. I've been on 4 different Harleysfor the past 11 or 12 yrs & thought I'd give the Beemers a try. In Dec '11 I bought a NTM 2000 R1100 RT well I loved it but found this 06 with 17 K miles on it last month & popped for it now trying to sell the '00.

BMR Products has a set of brackets for that location on the 1200RT, but I am not fond of the method of attachment. They might be suitable for very light weight lights, but I was mounting HID's and had to supplement their "well screws," which attach to the plastic housing underneath the turn signals, with nylon ties and aircraft safety wire.
Just an updated shot of my 2012 RT with the 49L and a BMR rack mounted. Once the seat comes in it's time to burn off those B-stones.
