Hello Everyone. I finally got my new GSA last Saturday and in keeping with the tradition here, I am posting my first picture tonight. Sorry it is not anything exciting as far as the picture goes. I went with the premium package, ESA and such. The bike has the BMW panniers and top box. I have my Zumo 550 mounted on it as well as the XM antenna. In addition to the stock seat, I purchased the low seat from a GS and the extra low seat from the R model (hope I have that right). So I have three seats. Being inseam challenged, the extra low seat fits me best (pretty much flat footed). The low GS seat is fine as long as I only want to be on my toes. The stock seat, well, then we're talking the need for a ladder.
I've only got about 370 miles on it as of tonight. I absolutely love it so far. And it feels great to finally actually have my first Beemer in the garage. Can't wait to take on its first little trip in July.
I have been a member of MOA since last fall and really enjoy reading the forums each day. Met Mandy this last weekend at Gateway BMW in St. Louis during the open house while I was picking up my new bike. Hope to get to meet some you in the future.

Returning to the MOA after an 18 year absence. This is a picture of my 3 month old 2006 R1200RT on the way to Alaska (August 2006). Taken across the river from Teslin Lake YK. The bike survived the trip with a starting mileage of 2500 miles and at the end 10850 miles. It currently has 40 k on the odometer and is ready for Alaska this year once again.
I sprayed the vulnerable painted pieces with Griot's spray on bra for protection. The bike came home, I peeled the material off and no scratches at all:clap I will do the same on this upcoming ride.

2009 GSA. I kept the Garmin mount, FF50's, Centech, Throttlemeister and TT Zegas from the '05 standard GS. I had TKC's on the GS, but this one came with Karoos. Well, the first long trip I had a chance to take was for work in Arizona from Cali, and as much as I spiced it up with off the beaten path riding, I still had some deadlines, so mostly pavement. Oh well...Still had fun on 66 up to Oatman and some dirt roads around the desert. As far as the bike...love it! Killer machine.

I've since added a ZTechnic V-Stream windshield and am using the Scala Q2. I have a Zumo 550, Centech fuse panel, Valentine V1, and Migsel mount on the shelf and waiting for install.:dance

And, after only riding on them 3 or so miles from BMW Scottsdale (it was 113 degrees) I can say how they look is nothing compared to what they feel like on the bike. It feels so much lighter at the handle bars.
I copied this from a site that offers the wheel for sale
BST wheels are 40-60% lighter than stock wheels and will reduce a bike's Moment of Inertia (ie. less energy is required to start or stop the bike) and reduce the gyroscopic effect of the wheels.
I can't wait until it cools off a bit in another month or so.

Here's (http://www.oppracing.com/products/1300-bmw-r1200s-r-st-rt/?price_flag=cdn) one place selling them in the US. The price is higher for the pair than I paid, but it has been six months of economic turmoil, so I can't explain that.
They should fit the ST just fine. You will need a set of rotor screws as well. You can't re-use the one's that come off with the rotors. But you cannot believe the difference in the ride of the bike once the wheels are on.

Oh I want to use the rear red and amber leds for the brake lights and turning signals.
anyone have an Idea as to where I can hook them up. Each strip of 3 uses 1/2 amp.
skyking96w
12-24-2009, 11:15 AM
Nigel -- do you plan to use the LEDs in addition to the bike's standard tail light and turn signals? If so, I would just try to tap into the standard wiring for those lights.
I will assume, for now, that the RT-P has the same wiring color codes for the standard equipment as the standard RT. My wiring diagram (in a Haynes manual) shows the hot leads as follows:
Turn signals: rear left--blue with white and red tracers; rear right--blue with black and white tracers.
Brake and tail light: grey with black and yellow tracers.
All ground wires are brown.

An updated photo of my '07 RT after adding Z-Technik screen, BMW LED aux taillight, and GPS. I also swapped out my clear turn signal lenses for the amber simply because I prefer the look of the colored lenses. Not shown are mirror tethers and a hidden pigtail for connecting a Battery Tender directly to the battery. It's gettin' there...

Here it is! My 2010 Camhead that is now in my garage. It is so much more powerful than my old 2007 RT. Picked it up late this afternoon. I would recommend everyone take one for a test ride. That's what sold me. (The styling doesn't hurt either). I never thought the Dual O/C engine would make that much difference. It's really a fun machine.:dance
Mischlers in Beaver Dam, WI made it happen for me. I can't help but recommend them to anyone. This is the third bike I bought from them. They have taken care of me as well as I could expect.
Okay, I may not be on this board much in the next few days. I have so much riding to do. Yippee!!!
(Oh, please excuse the neighbor boy in the photo. That is his best side, LOL. They play b/ball in the alley behind my house.)

Nice bike, Robert! So, as another new '10GS owner, how do you like it? :)
Thanks Tessler!
What's not to love about it? At 51 my first bike ever was an F800GS bought February 2009; I put about 12000 miles on it including multi-day trips into Death Valley, Big Sur, Utah / Zion and also another 1700 miles on a rented F800GS through the interior of Alaska last August.
The 1200GS was a big step up for me in overall comfort, particularly on the highway. The additional power and mass, aside from design makes it a totally different feel than the F800GS (duh) but in a good way.
The Farkelization is in full swing as I just added the new AltRider bash guard, LED turn signals and Hammerhead shifter. The Jesse bags are downstairs in the garage awaiting a missing part/ installation as are the Hyperlites, GPS and PIAAs. My plan is to convert the PIAAs and OEM headlights to HID next week and add the AltRider crash bars.
My focus is off-road and we haven't been on that date yet :heart. As soon as I get the proper protective bars in it and all the electronics installed we've got some offroad love to do.
Thanks for asking and again thanks for your kind words.

After 38 years of hard labor and much lusting after a big beemer, took delivery of an 09 Silver RT last April. Wife and I tested an R, GS and RT. The RT was IT.
Following Dad's footsteps - '72 R75/5, white Windjammer, tan Enduro bags.
Waited 2 months for special order with cruse & traction control, computer, hot grips. Now at 20k+ miles, it's fed a diet of high test gas and synthetic oil and radial tire$ (4th $et). As a daily driver do-it-all bike, it can't get much better than this. :thumb

Thanks Ray,
OE Bridgestone BT020, past wear bars at 8k.
2nd Avon Storm to wear bars at 5k (front wore & handled funny).
3rd Dunlop RS; rear holed from bone fragment at 3500, front to wear bars at 5k. Lots of road kill round here!
4th Michelin PR2 still on at 2k and doing VERY well.
Next might be BS BT-023 or Avon Storm 2 depending on price.
All static balanced and kept at PSI by the manual. Both Metzler and Avon has on their web site identical higher recommended pressures which I am currently trying on the PR2's. ? :scratch

Ken --
I think you will like the PR2s. This will sound unbelievable, and I nearly could not believe it when I checked back, but I just got 23K out of a set of PR2s, and they are not down to the wear bars. They still have life, but I changed them because I was leaving May 3rd on a 50CC Jax to San Diego, and I knew the whole trip, including wandering thru CA and NV and CO before heading home, would be over 7000 miles.
The previous set of PR2s I got about 14K, and should have left them on for another 3 or 4K, but that was just before the trip to the MOA and RA rallies last year, so I thought I should put new ones on. I was probably wrong.
And there is yet another set of PRs (not PR2s) in the garage with only about 8K on them. I will re-mount at least two of these sets and use them up one day!
I should probably add that I am not much of a peg-scraper, and we don't have mountains in Florida, so not many real "twisties." But a lot of my riding the last year and a half has been in mountain country, especially out west.

I took this pic (edit: just east of Hope, Montana) on my way back from the national rally. I covered 6,997 miles over the course of my 2+ week adventure, including my first Iron Butt Association Saddle Sore ride enroute to the rally (from Cheyenne to Redmond) followed by my first Bun Burner ride (Billings to Dayton) on the way back to D.C. My trek included a side trip to Crater Lake and an excursion up to Vancouver, B.C. The twisties through the Canadian Rockies were exciting! The thing I credit most (besides the R1200RT being an -amazing- bike) was the aftermarket saddle...on one stretch, I stayed on the bike for 233 miles without any real discomfort. Not surprising, I happened to experience a kind of "withdrawal" when the ride was finished--I guess because being on the road proved to be such an exhilarating experience. I'm hooked and must go again soon! I have 27K miles on the clock...17K of those miles are mine, logged in the past 18 mos.

"Guessing no one here accepts Seasons Greetings, as the 12/2010 ON magazine and my message wish.
Merry Christmas, AZ! Perhaps most of us just admired your hexhead and moved on, thinking that the Season's Greetings/Happy Holidays/Happy Hanukkah/Merry Christmas thread was elsewhere....or they are all out shopping...
Guessing no one here accepts Seasons Greetings, as the 12/2010 ON magazine and my message wish.
For the last 2 weeks my computer wallpaper has been someones R1200S (same color scheme as yours) parked along a road in the mountains with snow around it.
:wow When I saw the new magazine cover I thought - Oh good, BMW is making those again (I wish!)
I also have the original BMW poster of this bike hanging in my garage.
(Yes, I dream about motorcycles)

This was my first ride on the new to me 09 GS about a month ago. Purchased the bike with only 2k miles on it. I have since added Jesse Safari bags to it but as of now that is about the only add ons I have planned.

My NEW TO ME, 2005 R1200RT. Brought her home yesterday.
Here are the stats:
MILES: 19,581
EQUIPPED WITH: Cruise Control, Heated Seats and Grips
ADDITIONS: Bar Risers, BMW 28 Liter Top Case
NEW MICHELIN PR2's with 400 miles on them
After coming off of a 2002 R1150RT, this bike is a huge improvement. So far, I am loving it.
Will have to detail the bike and then I will post additional pictures. :bikes

Good Afternoon Everyone;
It is a pleasure to be part of this Club with such vast amounts of information and discussion. I am from Calgary, Alberta where there is no sign of ridding anytime soon at -28C this morning but plenty of time to do some research and see how everyone else is involved with their Motorcycle.
A picture of my RT from last fall on a ride West of Calgary.

8 yr old likes to ride the HEX. Me and the 3yr old ride an Airhead mostly.
Homemade version of a slipscreen in this pic. $25 ebay find and a dremmel (great tool), black paint. That thing got broken in a ditch in Boone, NC. Glad it wasn't the Aeroflow.

I'm not sure how to submit pix to On, but I sure like taking them! I got my new seat back last week, color matched to the bike. Was meant to be more Pikes Peak than July 4th, but hey, it looks happy, and so am I, so why not!:clap

My ride along the Trail Ridge Parkway in Rocky Mountain National Park last year. I was taking the long way back to NY after the Sturgis rally. Good fun. It looks pretty and peaceful but its actually cold and very windy. It made for an exciting ride through the pass. It was August but I'm glad I packed my winter gear. Come to think of it cold and windy was a blessing....crystal clear air.

Yes, that's my back yard. There is about 300 acres around it, then there is the state forest that borders that. The snow should be just about gone in the forest by now.

My R12R is an exact replica of yours but after riding it to NH last weeked in this New England Spring-Winter I can barely make out the color of mine. I guess I am now shamed into giving her a bath tomorrow (probably in the rain). When is the sun going to shine and warm our cockles?
