Dave,
I am in deep doo doo now. You need to remove that picture. Lorazagirl says that picture sucks. Since she won't let me take a picture of her, until she complies, leave it up. This will be blackmail so I can get a pic of us in our leathers on the new RS, which still has just 40 miles on the odometer. It has 10K miles of wax on it though :D. If I can't ride it, I might as well rub on it. The new job is good, and I might get off for a couple rallies this year even.

I knew a guy who used to have RTR but when that became impractical he went to a stereo VCR. Why? Because even in SLP mode the two tracks on the VHS tape were the best quality of any magnetics available at the time (he thought so anyway- I have no idea how wide those tracks are). And in SLP he could make a six-hour music mix and that sort of long tape was why he got RTR in the first place.
I hope you don't mind, lorazepam, but I fixed your links.

The shirt is from the Vortex, a mini-chain of bar/burger joints in Atlanta. Very good burgers - my favorite, not surprisingly, is the Big Jerk. In one of their 2 or 3 locations they had an old /2 mounted on a dividing wall.

Kbasa,
You are correct, I was on Get Home Now (GHN) mode, but stopped along the next rest area soon after you passed me to take a breather from the wind gusts, tailgaters, and commercial vehicles...
The attitude adjustment helped for the remainder of my trip to San Mateo, though...
On the trip to DV, I was able to hook up with two GS riders and another guy on a K12RS, but lost them in the fog near the Hwy 46 exit off I-5...It was fun while it lasted...I was impressed, not a single lane change was performed without the use of a blinker by those three riders, me included...

Just saw a note about this on my club board (thanks Tony D) and thought I'd pass it along. BMW is doing another print ad campaign with real riders and they are requesting pictures. Since you all are such a good looking bunch, here's the info:
BMW National Casting Call (http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/board/viewMessage?id=29283&p=0)
LOOKING FOR A FEW STARS
Posted by admin on Jan 12, 2004 9:30:07 AM EST
No, we haven't developed a obsession for astronomy (riding
motorcycles is more than enough). Yet again, we are casting real BMW riders (and couples) to be featured in our next print advertising campaign to be launched this spring.
Whatever your age, height, body type, race or sex - it doesn't matter to us
so long as you have the look we want for the particular ad.
Most importantly, you must be quick to respond, and you must ride a BMW motorcycle - it doesn't have to be a current model.
We may conduct a photo shoot as early as February 2004, so if you're interested please act quickly by submitting the following information to the email address below .
Name
Mailing Address
Daytime Phone number
Model/Year of BMW motorcycle(s) you own
Years riding experience
Average miles you ride in a year
Please attach one current picture of yourself to your email.
The photo should be a close up of your face (without hat,
helmet, sunglasses, etc.)
Submit all information to:
bmwcastingcall@mnh.com
Ok, I'll play ;)

But having seen so much of it in the posted photos, I find myself wondering, "What is the deal on posing with an upraised beer?"
Did your parents forbid the consumption of spirits, or is it something deeper?
It kind of reminds me of those drawings of George Washington with a particular leg stuck out -- maybe it is the California version of putting forward one's best foot ... :D

One is saluting the viewer, though in the picture above it looks like the subject just happened to have a beer in his hand.
Also, we drink a lot of beer when we camp. Beer is good. The ancient Sumerians called it liquid bread.
:drink
The_Veg
01-29-2004, 10:42 AM
The liquid bread argument was also used in our nation's infancy when the first Congress was trying to decide if beer should be taxed or not.
"Sirrah, it is liquid bread!" was the cry of one anit-tax legislator who's name eludes me. His side lost of course. I think if enough of us put our heads together on this we could still change it though!
Beer tax is a great reason to homebrew.

Here in the deep South, our wives or girl friends -- and sometimes, both, are called upon to hold our beer for us. Then we men pose so the best side of our beer gut shows. To put this in scholarly terms, a linguist would identify this as the principle of "cultural equivalence."
Perhaps you heard about the research done on words uttered before collisions?
Tape recorders were installed in the dash of vehicles to record the sounds in the autos during accidents.
In 49 of the 50 states, just before a collision the driver would exclaim, "Oh s--t," or words to that effect. But in Alabama, the drivers were typically heard to as say, "Hold my beer and watch this!"

Wow - I can't believe that it's been about a year since this thread was last active! There are lots more Forum members since last February so I'm going to resurrect it and am hoping especially to find out if Bubba Zanetti actually looks like Bubba Zanetti. You can't really tell from that dinky avatar pic.
Here's the only picture that I took on my August Bun Burner Gold. I like determined look on my face and the words "Kwik Trip" in the background. It was indeed a quick trip (fun, too) - Milwaukee to Bismarck and back in 22 hours 55 minutes. :bliss

At Willow Springs they have "passenger time" After getting shoehorned into the passenger seat of that tiny car, Gary had the thing pulling such Gs that I was turned around in my skin like a sharpei dog. There is nothing to hold onto inside the car but I was pawing at the dashboard for some sort of handle. He took some dark hearted pride in making me squirmy. The speed limit for passenger rides it 80, but on the shorter back straight where no one was looking, he had it up to 140!

Her before her conversion...
Past: the HD 1200 Sportster (in the shop too much), nice power (when it ran) but made this aweful potato-potato sound when running. It had a nasty habit of coughing or stalling right when you wanted to accelerate from a stop. Was told by several mechanics that worked on it, that was "normal" for a Sportster. THEN WHY DO THEY SELL THEM???? WTF?
Present: rides a Vulcan 750, nice but no ABS and definately not a BMW but at least it goes when you tell it too.

And where the heck has Mike The Bike been?
MTB is convalescing at an undisclosed location. He is recovering from a nervous breakdown suffered at the hands of you shameless harridans who pilloried and ridiculed him at every turn. It was his devoted spouse, the illustrious "Princess" who literally rescued MTP from total madness and self destruction by soothingly reassuring him the callous comments witnessed on this forum were merely the jealous prattlings of impotent, ill mannered, liberal leaning louts who failed to recognize his genius. She also vowed to clean his weapons each and every weekend while he was "away." It was only on this basis that he allowed the attendants to slip on his Aerostich Touring Jacket with the long wrap around arms and straps on the back for that long ride down the Blue Ridge Highway to the Rest Home.
MTB isn't allowed to use the internet right now. The staff are afraid that he might inadvertently stumble into the Forum resulting in a catastrophic PTSD reaction and consequent relapse.
I hope that yall are happy now. Yall just weakened our country.....

KBasa this looks like such a fun idea I figure I would chime in too and show my mug with my grandson who will be riding a Beemer in his future.
Well I tried to attach a picture but it will let me so I guess it’s trying to tell me something.

Don't preview it and it ought to pop right on there.

I read earlier where you mentioned not to preview it so I didn’t.
When I tried to attach it after a few moments it would pop up with a error so I figure it is all because I’m still in the dinosaur age and have dial up connection not allow it to upload.

Nah. Aside from the no-preview rule, the image can't be too big. If it is, then
you'll need to resize it before attaching it.
[shameless plug]
Why go to all that trouble to attach images when a smugmug account is so
much easier? Load your image, what ever the size, onto smugmug then link
the right size in your post.

This is a mug shot of me from last weekend's trip down to the Bay area Via Hwy 1.
The permagrin results from the Hwy 1 stretch between Leggett and the coast. Clear day, clean roads, very few cars and lots of peg scraping. My kinda day. :dance

Ah, Honu, didn't they tell you that you are not allowed to post pictures or Ride Reports involving PCH on here? Those of us not fortunate enough to ride there do not appreciate having our noses rubbed in it. (joke light was lit)
It seems that somewhere I saw a sign that said, "no whining". I can't remember where I saw that, Hmmmm....

There is a difference, albeit subtle, between envy and whining.
You're right, it's not the same, there is a subtle difference. Besides, I'm sure there's some comparable roads around Michigan :dunno . I can't help it if I love my coastal roads, you will love them too when you try them. :)
Until then you may feel like this...

Maybe you can join us on the Redwood Fungal ride in October? Check out the thread and see what you think.
How far is it from Texas to Cali?

I don't see it happening next month for a long list of reasons, but think of it as merely a delay- sooner or later I'll get out that way, possibly even permanently as the NW is on my list of places to go from here whenever the time comes.
So be sure to drink one for me by the campfire! :D :bottle :buds
:drink Will do.
I'd invite you out here to ride the 1, for the spring. But I won't be here -taking a traveling job in January. I'll be back every 3-5 months to check on my house and see how my roomates are doing taking care of my cat.
If I end up near Texas- I'll post a note to you for a ride. (I'm going to trailer my bike behind my truck wherever I go.)
I have faith you will make it to the West coast. Pack up your trusty steed (Bat) and Westward-ho.

I look forward to meeting you too. I'm pretty sure we will get along.
I'm happily single, but I might bring one of my buddies (a fungi) that I taught to ride this summer. He put in a few thousand miles on my old Virago and just bought an RT last week. :clap

What happened?

This summer coming into Roseburg OR the left front wheel bearing seized up and destroyed the fork slider.
I was cruising along at 70mph when the bike shuttered like it was running out of gas. A few seconds later the bike really started to shutter...I rolled off the throttle and pulled onto the shoulder...by this time the front brake started to seize up due to the wheel wobbling. It was over before I knew it and the bike was still upright!
I had a 30K mile check done on the bike 3K miles ago (last summer) and wheel bearings are one of the inspection points! Oh well…
Here’s a couple of pictures of the front end.
