have a K75 with roughly 80000 miles. (roughly because the speedo died, and died again few monts after repair). Sat in the garage and was ridden infrequently (the R1200RT fit us both much better). Now when I try to ride I hear funny knocks from the engine area. First thing I did is replace the fuel filter as the bike seemed starved (died few times). Now the knocking is still present and the RPM does not increase smoothly.

It sounds like two pieces of metak hitting each other in the engine. I can ride the bike but this noise comes on every few minutes. My next two steps are plugs and then computer connections. Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance.

Hard to diagnose without being there.. but K bikes don't like to be left with fuel in the tank. It rots/melts the rubber mount for the fuel pump, which then gets into the fuel pump and basically destroys it. I think I'd pull the fuel rail and see if the injectors are squirting evenly. I'd do this OUTSIDE where if it catches fire (shoudn't if you're careful) it won't burn the house down. I'd also take a look at the plugs (and perhaps replace them) - if one is loosing spark intermittently it could cause these sort of symptoms.

Hi Don, also should have the oil pressure checked as well . Engine knock that is not a fuel knock is serious . Do what Don said :nono and follow it with that oil pressure test (:stick also make sure there is oil:buds )
