After many hours of exhaustive study :drink and still many more hours of meditation :snore I have made the observation that some prefer to drive a motorcycle :nono , while others prefer to ride :nod . What say ye? :bikes

I do neither. To drive a motorcycle implies that it is a tool and I'm in control of it. To ride a motorcycle implies that the motorcycle is in control and I'm just along...er uhhh for the ride...so to speak.
The motorcycle and I form a mutually beneficial visceral symbiotic bond. It goes where I look. I seem to pick roads that it likes.

Wow, I've got no answer now.

Drive is an indicator "to somewhere" I drive to get somewhere whereas to ride indicates I ride without destination, go along as a passenger on the back of the bike, with no idear or consideration of where I may be left off.
I have observed that most of us who follow this forum are all grown men (and women) with a bit of a fixation on bikes, and they are our toys, and in some cases are used specifically to get to a destination (like my commute to and from work) and others justify their fixation as a way to save expense on gas (then why not buy an old honda?). Tjhere is not real "purpose" to what led us to purchase such fine machines; it's simply the fun factor, the grown men (women) toy factor!
In all honesty, have a "relationship" with this cool piece of steel, we "couple" with the motorcycle, not unlike Captian Ahab of Moby Dick, we refer to the bike the the feminine venacular! Where does that leave "she rides a beemer"? I don't know, but for me, I am making love to the bike albet making love to the world for every twist of the throttle, every curve I lean every mile I travel. I do not ride, and I do not drive, I simply become "one" with my bike! I engage the bike to engage the world!:heart

I tried to drive a motorcycle once. Wasn't a pretty sight.
The motorcycle didn't move, and the golf club got pretty messed up.
(and no, I didn't really do that; it's just fun to say)

A friend is a new rider, a very very new rider. I followed him on a twisty road the other night. He was driving his motorcycle. How do I know? He kept his body in the same position on the road on the motorcycle as his body would be if he were driving. It was kinda neat to see how carefully he kept he and his bike in a small 3 or 4 foot wide strip on the left side of the lane.
