I figured where to find the best minds to solve a non BMW cycle issue other than MOA!?
I know it is off BMW topic, so please, mr moderator, don't kick me off, I had no idea where to put it other than here!

My kids Brand New Suzuki DRX125 has starting problems I am trying to figure out. He just got it for his birthday, and it seemed to start on the second or third kick when I tested it at the store. I assumed it was due to not being warm. It ran fine, idle was fine, but now it is home, it takes a frustrated 13 year old at least four kicks, sometimes more OR not at all when warm to get it started! He is not new to kick starting, and it also takes me a couple/three to get it going even when warm, so I know it's not him and gas ratio; somthing is going on here, and I need some opinions! I don't really want top haul it 50 miles back to the dealer.

Spark is my guess, but wanted to get a "professional" opinion.

I bekieve that is a four stroke bike. If you have had only two strokes before then starting can be a little problematic until you get used too it. Like I say if you haven't had one before make sure you read thru the manual on starting. You don't want to roll on the throttle before starting especially when warm or it will take alot of kicks to get it started. Might want to just put a call into the service dept at the dealer, might be able to help you with some tips over the phone.
Good luck. Hope you get it worked out and your son gets alot of ridin time in

If it is indeed a four stroke the biggest mistake I see in folks trying to start one is touching the throttle. Just the slightest (I do mean slightest) turn of the throttle while kicking it, especially when warm, can bring a grown man to tears. I literally coach people to put their right hand on the handlebars somewhere where they are not even touching the throttle barrel.

This has worked on every 4 stroke single that I have ever (and currently) own.

Is there a compression release? If it doesn't start in the first couple of kicks, prod the starter a couple of times while holding the release in to clear it out, then try again.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Moved to the "Campfire" section since it isn't an oilhead problem, and it is a general question - you might catch more people with specific knowledge of this bike here..

Thank you all who responded. He now has this issue licked!

The one addition to fixing the p"problem" is TRYING TO KICK START IN TENNIS SHOES!

Wimpy kicks wont do here, you gotta kick it all the way through, and it goes and goes not unlike a damn Gazelle!

Thanks MOA Members!:clap
