Greetings-

Has anyone purchased extended warrantees for their bike?

I know, they don't cover consumable items(nor should they), but I just read a contract, and it doesn't cover imput splines.... Guess the company figures it is a wear item.

Anyone have any experience or recommendations for a reputable Extended Warranted company? Or is this even worthwhile.

BTW, my bike is 8 months old and approaching 28k. Once I start riding again, the factory warrantee will be history in a few months.

Cheers,
Steve

I bought one when I bought my S bike 4 years ago, but have never actually had to make a claim on it.

No. I don't think they are worth it.

If I did, I'd only get an extended warranty offered by the manufacturer, not some third party.

Don't BMWs have a 3 year warranty or do US BMW bikes only have a 1 year warranty?

Not to worry, money well spent because if you had not bought it you would be singing the blues, at least that is the way it goes for me.

BMW warranty is for 3 years or 36000K. "They are not worth it" I dunno. When I purchased my LT I had a chance to get an extended warranty for $1000. After
the warranty expired I had a the main seal (between the tranny and engine) go and it was $2,400 to repair. You do the math. Many including myself have had long term, many mile without expensive repairs experience with BMW, but they are mechanical and made by humans therefore stuff can happen. With BMW that
stuff is expensive.

Obviously, if you have after warranty repairs, you would think it to be worth it. Of all the vehicles that I've owned, it wouldn't have been worth buying an extended warranty in my case, but there is always a first time.

$2400 to do a main seal? That is a $50 job...or whatever the seal costs.

Yes it is but keep in mind it was an LT which required all that undressing, and because the seal was defective, oil leaked into the clutch creating further havoc.
