Well, I've done it twice now, so I though I'd share this with the board, and hope maybe there's a laugh in here somewhere. ;) Pulled to a stop in my friend's driveway, put the side stand down.....NOT..:banghead , and slowly leaned it into the asphalt! Darn! I didn't have the bags on this time, so the lower fairing got some nice scratches to show off. Now the 1st time I did this, it was almost understandable,...almost. Making a tight u-turn in my own drive, and I can see the mirror is going to take out my '56 taillight lens. Panic stop, and drop. :uhoh . In that instance, I hadn't learned how to pick that monster back up, so me and the neighbor did it. This time, I was able to use the instructions given after the 1st experience, and did get the bike back up myself. :cry So,... I hope I'm over this. KC

Don't fret too much. There are two types of riders: those who have dropped their bike and those who will...:stick :p The scratches add character and now you learned one important thing; concentrate first on parking the bike before you acknowledge people around you. DAMHIK :violin

I've ridden nearly 40 years and never had what I would call an accident on a motorycycle. However, I have picked up my bike from my back yard, garage, driveway, parking lot, etc. My problem is a short inseam and 0 MPH.

Dropped my son's GS500E this morning. I was moving his bike to get it around a project bike so we could ride this morning. Should have waited for him to come out, but since it is so light decided to slide it sideways and lost my balance and slowly let it settle to the garage floor. Luckily I got it back up before he came around the corner. I don't think he'll notice the scratch.......:banghead . The last time I did that with my K1200RS the bags were on and it came to a gentle stop before touching paint. I need to install a softer garage floor, maybe cork or a wrestling mat.........

Glad I didn't get too muck Flack....:hungover , I am actually amazed that the mirror supported the front of the fairing without any cracking! I've seen those nylon knobs on some of the Squids, but I think they are meant for more dynamic action. If I can find a good mounting point, I'd be tempted to put 10 or 20 on my bike... :laugh KC

My first drop was on my old Kawasaki KZ400 (440? Whatever.). The bike stalled on a freeway onramp about 50 yards past a cop running a speed trap. At that stage of life, I was a stupid kid without an endorsement, so I wanted to get the bike going before I had to answer any questions. So, got the bike onto the shoulder, put the kickstand down, flipped the kickstarter out, gave it a nice big jump and...

...rolled right off the kickstand because the bike was still in gear. On the way down, my pants leg rode up and my calf got pinned against the hot cylinder. Ssssssss! I don't know exactly how I got my leg out from under the bike or how I got the bike up, but it was up and in neutral and running again in like three seconds. Adrenaline is so totally my friend. The cop must've been laughing his butt off.

My wife has those nylon frame sliders on her bike. They do their job nicely. She dropped her bike and 100 lbs of gear in an awkward parking space, and between the saddlebags and the frame sliders, there was zero damage to the bike.
