View Full Version : Baiku

I don’t know how I got started on this, but I’ve been writing some Haiku lately, except that it’s about motorcycles so with apologies to real poets I'll call it ‘Baiku.’

Haiku is a form of traditional Japanese poetry that has 3 verses – first 5 then 7 then 5 syllables. G’head – try it.

Self-sufficiency
Is why riding is for me
We are an island

Blocking the left lane
A fat boy on a Fatboy
I just don’t get it

Riding is a way
To find who I might be
In another time

Stupid piece of crap
What the hell is it this time?
I want a new bike

A clot of Harleys
Watch as I pass you all
Wish you could lean over

Big fat slow beemer
CBR tries to lose me
I wave as I pass

Saddlebags are big
Until I pack my clothing
Now I want a trunk

Rally camping now
Wake with a sore back again
Hotel looks more fun

Smelly naked guys
Nowhere to point my eyeballs
Communal shower sucks

Beer tent open late
I stumble back to my tent
What was I thinking?

Valve cover comes off
Valves adjusted one more time
Bike runs smooth again

Bike rolls to a stop
Dead battery or something?
Fuel was not turned on

Oh man. This is fun.....

Zipping past mountains
I do hope to live here soon
The beauty of it.

Tall peaks dressed in white
spruce and balsam fill the air
I love Idaho

Twisty fast corners
this road traces the Salmon

Paraphrased from my site: From http://www.bradfordbenn.com/beemer/haiku.htm

So when I was at Bob's BMW I purchased the Moto Magnet set. Since then Jennifer and I have been having fun setting up various phrases on the refrigerator, dare I say new age Haiku. I have both typed them as well as keeping the picture of the magnets on the fridge. Warning some of these are a little suggestive... kids do not look.

Here is a sample:

never lost
have tour
roared curves
twisties free

the RPM's sing
instruments accelerate
he grin

Then for something with a little sexual inneundo... click here (http://www.bradfordbenn.com/beemer/grafix/seattoy.jpg) Warning, if you are offended by sexual inneundo, don't click

There are more up on the site.

So I got home from my trip about five days ago. Something about this thread and there being about six inches of snow on the ground made me finish a project I was working on for a while.

I have six or seven kits of Magnetic Poetry, various topics. I used to use them on the refrigerator but they started falling off. So then it was use them and then put them away since I did not want the dogs eating them. Today I put up about 32 square feet (3 meters) of metal in my basement to compose on. (The top middle one is the composition one, all those little white things are words.)

Riding through the blowing leaves
With a frozen smile

Let me take a shot at this.

Zing Zing bullets flying by
Run to take cover
Man its hot but a dry heat

Try to get some sleep
Trying not to think of home
Great more mortar rounds

Wake-up, more raids today
M.R.E.’s to go
I would kill for cool water

3 months, 6 months, 1 year now
Get to see wife soon
Home finally, lets go ride

Longing for motor
Sounds throbbing deep in my ear
Desert stretches out

Lonely roads with green
Endless date palms lining sides
Blotting out moon...dunes

Two hundred kilo
Meter per hour trucks race fright-
Fully by. Senses cringe.

No speed limit here.
No comfort-ability.
Super-car/truck track.

You can go fast, sure,
As fast as you want to be.
Freedom but diff'rence.

Summer coming 'home'
New Yawker on a desert
Run to Texas grace.

Gratitude for friends
Far across the far blue seas
Many languages...
