Last week Sharon and I visited my brother and his fiance who live on Grand Cayman Island. Family obligations. We had some time to kill so we rented a very underpowered 49cc Yamaha Zuma scooter. I'm sure it was named after Montezuma II the Aztec ruler. We went adventure riding around the island looking for dirt roads. Please don't hassle me about ATGATT. My yellow 'stich is in for repairs. The top speed of the Zuma, was 36 mph going down a hill with two on board. Average top speed with the throttle cranked all of the time was about 32 mph. Perhaps we should have rented bicycles?

The 2 stroke machine. Just crank the throttle and go. Centrifical clutch.

And you thought your BMW had a board for a seat. Try wet swim trunks on hot vinyl after a 30 minute ride. Perhaps this was Montezuma's revenge?

Sharon was itchin' to ride the scooter. She is so proud of getting her motorcycle license. She was having so much fun she wouldn't stop to let me drive.

We rode through the National Park near West Bay.

We felt like highway patrolmen with our brain bucket helmets.

An R1150R at the supermarket laughed a me. I felt so inadequate.

When we returned the scooter the next day we filled up the 1.5 gallon tank for $3.21 CI. The rental was $35 US for the day. We had fun but next time we'll rent a 125cc scooter.

Burnzie:

Nice shots.

A small machine like the Zuma would be a lot more fun on a Caribbean island than a big oiler. They're too much bike for that kind of an environment. 125 or 250 cc would be optimal, I think.

You look like Steve McQueen there. Did he go to hell ?

I don't know. I was going to jump a barbed wire fence but then Sharon wouldn't let me. :)
