In Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania just on the border of the Dutch-lands and the Coal Region is a small town of Port Clinton, home of Hermys BMW. The town is small having about 288 residents, its livelihood was built on being a shipping center because of the canal, and the Reading & Northern Railroad. Their purpose was to get the coal to the market and the food to fuel the labor northward. This small roadside American town is on Route 61 that was once rated as a top 10 motorcycle road in the United States. This status has waned over the past 20 years due the growth of Schuylkill Haven and Pottsville to the north and I 78 and Reading to the south.
This little quaint town with Rt 61 at its front door still has an outdoor charm. The Appalachian trail passes through it. The Schuylkill river is clean making it great for fly fishing. There are alot of Mom & Pop outfitting businesses that must now compete with Cabelas just 3 miles away. There are alot of outdoor and educational opportunities one being famous Hawk Mountain.
Hermy's had their annual open house on April 14th. The weather was cool in the 50s F, with plenty of sun. This was great for all the riders coming from long distances. Hermy's customer range was from Rochester NY, Central Pa., N.J., and Delaware.Their loyalty was based on offering great prices, to providing above and beyond customer service. Location is great because they can service the Philadelphia Metro area, assist the Mid-Atlantic, Dutch-land Clubs, and still offer a helpful hand to the northern and central BMW and Triumph owners.
The Open House was so busy that the Fire Police provided traffic control and assisted riders. Rt 61 was busy being the first day of trout season, and panic buyers stocking up for the anticipated Nor'easter coming on the 15-16th.
