I caught a few minutes of an OCC show this afternoon. The guys were testing out a high powered pressure washer in the parking lot of the company that made the pressure washer. There was a Beemer parked nearby and the idiot Mikey turned the pressure washer on the bike. First he trashed the seat and then the windshield, fairing and front tire. I know these guys are "out there" but I would have expected them to have a bit more respect for somebody's ride. Mikey said something like "I'm sure my dad will pay for it". I hope they bought the guy a new bike! :mad

wrecking perfectly good and working things is totally lame, its why i can't deal with shows like that. sometimes, people actually treasure beat up old worn out things much more than a brand new replacement. if i had my bike pressure washed by the occ guys i'd pop paul sr in the nose, run like hell then expect a shiny new R1200S out in the lot the next day, haha

i'm sure the bike belonged to them though.

That show has as much "reality" as does a soap opera. Chances are the bike had already been purchased strictly for that stunt. I've seen a bit of it and was underwhelmed.

I find it odd they would do that to a BMW, considering they have had SEVERAL people on the show stop by riding BMW's. There was some actor from that Dragon Rider (?) movie, and there were the "Long Way Round" guys...

A while back, I thought they should make a chopper with an airhead engine and tranny. You know, something different than the boring V-twin thing that gets done OVER and OVER. The more I think about it, they would probably get stumped trying to hook up the belt drive to the tranny. :laugh

At least a shaft drive, non v-twin chopper would be different, for a change. I stopped watching because there were only so many tank and fender combinations and fancy exhaust designs I could watch. It's all the same thing, over and over and over and over and over:

weld, show up late, get yelled at, leave, cut, weld, joke, go somewhere unrelated to the bike, get yelled at, repeat.

Lets not get too serious. The show is pure comedy and the guys are cartoon characters. For those of you who don't know OCC participates in more local charities and local events than I can count.. It seems that every day in the local paper Paul, Mikey and the gang are making a local appearance and donating a bike to some little known cause.

I saw the same show I thought the bike was a Kawasaki.

I tried watching the show last night. I don't know whether it was a re-run or not but Senior and Paulie were doing donuts with REALLY big Volvo dump trucks at the construction site of their new shop.

No one would have been laughing if they would have accidentally squashed a cameraman like a bug.

Later in the show Paulie was throwing firecrackers in the shop at the other employees.

I've stopped watching the show entirely as of last night. BTW why do they have it on The Learning Channel now? Isn't that for educational stuff? The only thing I learn from American Chopper is that the Geico guys aren't the only cavemen on TV.

how many classic chargers did they wreck filming "Dukes of Hazard"? An outrage I tell you...

The bike Mikey ruined was a Kawasaki Concours. I'm sure they paid the owner for it, probably prior to taping, but that really was the last straw for me. However much charity work they do, and no matter how many bikes they donate to worthy causes, I'm done with 'em.

I remember watching this show durring its' first season. I really enjoyed getting a look at what truly seemed to be the inner workings of a family business. I lost interest long ago however. Once the ratings hit the roof the whole family became big celibrities. Now I get the feeling they're all actors playing a role and hamming it up for the cameras. I suppose they may be good enough guys but this show has become just another sit-com.

I have always liked the show. I figured any tv show with motorycles was okay with me. Mikey was one of the reasons I watched it, just to see what he will do next. He keeps it light amid the b.s. between Sr. and Jr. but trashing someones ride just isnt cool whether it was a BMW, Kawi or moped. The owner appeared and seemed to be laughing, probably because he couldnt believe what just happened. I just know I wouldnt be too happy if that happened to my bike, no matter who did it.

Reminds me of the beard-and-tattoo motorcycle events where you could pay ten dollars to take a swing with a sledge hammer to a Japanese bike.

There seems to be some kind of Jingoism out there that makes owners of certain bikes hate all other brands.

I just wanted to point out that there are only a few places in the world that make "custom" bikes 100% Jessi James is one of them. The rest buy frame, engines and rims from other places. Extending a frame and shaping fenders and tanks is pretty neat but it all really comes down to the painter.

I don't mind the show that much, but do find it repetitive. What does interest me, though, is the huge following of Harley/Chopper derivatives that are almost uniform and conformist by their nature, despite the effort to be unique and original. I recently visited a rally in Myrtle Beach SC, where there were perhaps half a million bikes, and only a handfull caught my attention - a hubless rear wheel and a nicely done V8 monster amongst them.
These show bikes are uncomfortable and perform poorly. Are there that many bikers that are not into actually riding? Or this the last gasp at rebellion?

:dunno

On other shows, they've trashed stuff for no reason at all. What do you expect from that show? Its mindless crap for the mindless masses.

Have you ever seen some of their handywork. Cripes, the Russians were better at the turn of the century...the last century. :laugh

If that show was the only show TV there would be no purpose in my owning a TV. My personal feeling is that show is somewhat fake and lower than the pits.

I watched it two times, the first and the last.

I am sure Pauls buddies Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman would not find it as funny as the Orange crew did.

Sort of reminds me of book burning, Elvis record smashing, John Lennon albums, dixie chicks the list goes on through the years...

My experience riding one of those "orange county lookalike" bikes made my hands go to sleep after 50 miles, and took a whole lot of concentration to keep it going straight down the road, sort of like a flat bottom canoe in a windstorm.

My buddy who rides west every summer hauls it to the hills, then his wife and freinds follow behind with the tool trailer and a pitcher of daquiris
Go figure the fun there..If I took "the wife" on my rides, how in the world would I ever get laid?

This kind of macho in your face destructive crap plays to the mindset that is prevalent in this country today. I was at the local watering hole the other evening and was asked what kind of Harley I ride. I answered that I own several beemer bikes and have rode beemers pretty much for the past 30 or so years. This did not go down well at all and it was pointed out to me that Harley is all American and I should therefore repent. Beemers or any other motorcycle just do not fit in this tough guy rugged all American society. This mindset is re-enforced in the media by shows like OCC. I'm glad I live close to the Canadian border so I can get a taste of civility now and then without having to go far.

....it was pointed out to me that Harley is all American and I should therefore repent. But....But......
Harley is NOT all American. Noted earlier.

I was riding my old 78 RS when a Harley rider got on my case for riding a "rice burner." I had to correct him. I ride a Kraut burner. He was astounded when I informed him that his bike had more Japanese parts on it than mine did. It was true, but I doubt he believed me.

Oh, I do agree and I made mention of the fact that HD is not all made in the USA and these bozos told me I was wrong big time. I chose not to argue the point but rather told them how much I like the fine fit and finish to be found on today's big twin from the heartland. Paint job ought to be primo when one considers the price tag. What the hey, "If it don't go chrome it". I do kind of wish beemer had a belt drive offering. Now if it would just stop raining all the blessed time up here.

I thought that bike was an old K bike as well until I saw the Kawasaki emblem on the tank.

It still sickens me that OCC had to get involved in Long Way Round. Ride thelast few miles with the travelers; try desperately to validate themselves as motorcyclists. I ain't buyin' it.

Tonight on "Who Cares?", we interview the internationally famous Surgeon & Financier, Reg Le Crisp and the Elephant, Mr. George Humphries...

Which has about as much to do with anything as anything OCC has to do with anything....except that that classic Python sketch is FUNNY.

while sicken may not be my choice of words, "annoyed" might be. what did that add to the dvd (aside from sales)??? it's like sailing solo around the world then pulling into the final port with a carnival cruise ship hanging out with you. loud, obnoxious and out of place. an introspective, thoughtful and interesting motorcycle trip somewhat tarnished at the end if you ask me.
