I'm getting my bike out of storage on the 13th. I may go to Dover on July 13th.

I was planning to go, especially since I'll be at the National in WI for the big one this year. If it snows as threatened for the next couple of days and the salt is still thick on the roads I won't go. I haven't missed one in years, but there's not much point in riding in salt. Decision time will be Friday morning.

Forecast is for rain/snow on the night of the 11th and through Thursday the 12th with sun/cloud and 10+ degrees C high 0 C low on Friday the 13th.

Looks like a 250 km round trip to Port Dover for a perch dinner might be in the cards.

Still sitting on the fence on this one. I've got the CL apart right now adding the Autocomm unit so unless I get it put back together today, we might have to go two-up. I'm with Holly on this one, it's a game day decision.

The snow melted off the roads by 10:30 am with the help of a little temporary sunshine and it got up to +3 C so I suited up and headed off to Port Dover by way of the Motorcycle Museum at Brantford where I had a saddlebag's worth of stuff to drop off there. It rained and snow flurried a bit north of Brantford. Warmed up at the Museum and then went off south to Port Dover where it seemed a bit warmer - maybe +5 C. Always very windy (30 - 50 kph).

At Port Dover, perhaps a 1,000 bikes of all sorts and kinds parked on Main St., All the usual choppers and customized bikes (most did not appear to have been ridden and further than from their trailer). More Ural sidecar outfits than you could shake a stick at. Fair number of late model BMWs, especially GS types. Many more H-Ds especially the older models. Parked my '78 R100/7T next to a '54 Sunbeam S8 in-line twin (the BSA company's long-ago idea of competition for the BMW flat-twin) Thousands of sightseers and rubberneckers watching the well wrapped up "bikers" come and go.

A good late lunch while thawing out and after some more gawking at the scenery and then headed home, arrivng by 6:00 pm to a flurry of snow and +2 C on the thermometer.

Round trip 250 km, fuel consumption 20 km per litre. Too cold to ride more than 80 - 90 kph on a bike without windshield or fairing and no heated clothing. Especially with that wind.

Rode in from Brantford Friday morning, arriving in Port Dover around 11:00 am. Parked the LT in a friend's garage for the remainder of the day, way too cold out. Talked to a guy downtown who picked up his new GT three days ago, he couldn't wait to get into some warmth! Didn't see too many BMW's but then I wasn't really looking. Too busy getting hauled into the beer tent by some old friends I ran into.

Left Saturday morning, cold but sunny and rode home to Mississauga via the 407. Purchased a new armored jacket and pants from one of the vendors in the park and in combination with the heated seat and grips, kept me nice and warm. Must remember to wear thicker socks, the toes were a bit cold.

July 13th is going to be crazy, I can hardly wait!

The move to Montana was made three years ago. It's a 2004 Montana 3685FL fifth-wheel RV ;)

The beemer gang has to continue to befuddle the Harley Gang . People still love the German technology and are very envious of the perks on my Lt. They say it's too car like . My response is try to keep up with me on a twisty road we're silent but deadly.

Looking forward to July better get there early weather permitting mega thousands of enthusiasts lots of eye candy in the summer .

Budds bmw is having a ride day on the May long weekend a great opportunity to test out the new bikes .

I find myself being the curmudgeon again.

The last time I went to Port Dover for this event was in 2005, and I spent the day wearing my earplugs while walking around Port Dover.

I guess the appeal of the Harley and Metric Cruiser with an exhaust system made out of a piece of plated conduit must be wearing thin.

I guess there are just too many rugged in-DUH-viduals there for my liking.

Regards, Rod.

P.S. The perch dinner however was excellent.

I like all types of bikes, so I like going. It doesnt matter what you ride, just that you ride!!!

Besides, its cool to see sooooo many bikes all crammed into one little town. July should be a major party... they're saying its going to be the biggest Fri 13th ever!!

Did anyone notice its also the same weekend as the MOA rally, and the BMW canada rally at superbikes races at Mosport... funny that everything is booked for the same time.

It should be a good party fot those that attend, Steppenwolf is the Headliner Band!

Expect 100,000 in attendance!

Have gone on my 1977 R100RS and gotten lots of strange looks from people, like a goat staring at a new fence! Had a Harley owner ask what those things were sticking out the side.

Won't be there this year as I will not miss our National!

Yeah, I get that question too, its pretty funny eh?

So you're going to the Mosport thing? Is it good or what? I thought about going to Port Dover Fri Morning and then heading to Mosport....

Rumour has it (from a very good source) that Steppenwolf is opening for the Doobie Brothers.

I'm also considering doing Dover on Friday and Mosport for the rest of the weekend.
