View Full Version : Did this fall off my bike?

I found this on the floor of the garage under my bike. Showed it to my mechanic and he couldn't identify it as a part from a K75.

Does anyone recognize this bushing/washer/stop/bumper from the work they've done on their bikes over the years?

(I apologize for the poor quality of the cell phone camera photo.)

And for you smarty pants, I'm referring to the part on the left, not the part on the right I've included for purposes of scale!

Looks like one of the various "bumpers" installed in many places on the K machine. Hang onto it...:D

It's part of the bracket that holds the bat-try on. Baffled me for a few days until I backtracked. Do I win a prize?

Just a little tip. Push the tulip button on your digital camera. That sets it to Macro when shooting close up. The up close shots will be crystal clear.

Does your bike have the engine spoiler on the bottom?
edit..
Oh you have a K75S. That looks like the bushing that attaches the front bottom spoiler to the engine. There are two of them.
Most likely fell out when they were trying to put the spoiler back on after an oil change.

All of the sudden I'm questioning the expertise of my wrench! :)

(Just kidding - please put the new radiator in right this afternoon!)

I haven't removed the chin spoiler myself, so I don't know that it could come from there. The last time the chin spoiler was removed was six months ago. I suppose it could have bounced around on top of the spoiler for the past 3000 miles, but that doesn't seem likely.

But - I have been futzing around with the battery lately - so that's likely where it came from. Oh how I love left-over parts!

Thanks for the suggestions - again this site saves my sanity - thank you!

That's what I get for using the cell phone camera. I have thousands of dollars of professional digital photography equipment at home, but when I NEED to take a picture at work, all I have with me is my wimpy cell phone camera.

But thank you for the suggestion - if my cell phone had a macro feature, I'd certainly have used it

There are also several of these bumpers used in the tail piece mounting.

Check your seat bottom. Looks like a bumper off a Corbin... or others.

I'm going to have to completely disassemble my bike to find all the possible locations for this part :banghead

At least under the seat and the battery strap are easily accesible.

Oh well - good think 'wrenching on my bike is one of my favorite hobbies!

Everyone's a comedian :)

It did come from under my Corbin (the bumper, not the paperclip). Another one was VERY loose. The rivets Corbin used to fasten the bumpers to the bottom of the pan are the wimpiest things I've ever seen - stamped from aluminum foil, it appears.

I ran some real screws through the bumper and up into the bottom of the pan. Shouldn't happen again.
