Is it worth the $38 for a Clymer manual, or just stick with the BMW owner's manual? I'm doing some engine work, wondered if the extra refferance book is worth the $ Thanks!

Between the Clymer's manual and advice from this site, I've literally saved myself thousands of dollars by doing the work myself.

The Clymer's shop manual is by far the best of the two K-bike shop manuals. (The other, "Haynes", has better electrical diagrams.)

By all means get the Clymer's manual! You won't believe how easy it is to do the work yourself!

I have both the Haynes and Clymer manuals. Often, one will offer information that is not contained in the other.

Considering the money that can be saved by doing your own maintenance, buying both manuals is an insignificant expense.

For most of the bikes we own I have the BMW factory repair manual either in printed or CD form and a Clymer manual and Haynes manual. The factory repair manuals are the best for specs, torque values, and procedure secquences - but they assume you are a qualified mechanic. The aftermarket manuals assume the opposite and contain photos and paragraph descriptions. Depending on model and vintage sometimes I like the Haynes manual better - sometimes the Clymer better. In either case having more than one explanation and set of photos is sometimes helpful.

On the other end of the mechanical spectrum (from Paul), my Clymer's manuals are worth every cent. I look up pretty basic things, but having the manual gives me a reliable place to turn to. It's also allowed me to learn how to do a few new things and gain confidence in taking care of routine items.
