Does anyone know why my LT ('05) makes a rattling or clunking sound if you hold in the clutch handle as you approach a stop? As long as its engaged, its happy, about to go in for 24k mile service. Thanks.

Is the sound new or has it always been there?

Just started to get really noticeable last 2-3000 miles.

24k seems like low milage for a clutch replacement. I don't know but it could be a simple adjustment or the sign of impending failure.
Do you notice whether it slips at all? Maybe a clutch smell or a different feeling would be more of an indicator than sound.

No smell, everything's tight. Normal operation otherwise..

Hmm...I'm gonna say it's an adjustment thing. Maybe needs to be bled is all?

Abrown,
Before you get steered totally off the path here.................... go to BMWLT.COM and you won't even need to pose the question. Do a "search" on "noisy clutch" or something simliar and you'll read for hours. That is the site for correct answers on the K1200LT. And, do know the K12LT has a dry clutch and they are prone to rattle when there is lilttle force on the pressure plate because the spring pressure is pushed away from the pressure plate/ clutch disk (all this happens when you squeeze the clutch lever). And, yes they are hydraulically actuated. It is a great site, you need to go there. :thumb

bmwlt.com or maybe even k-bikes.com are two good sites. The later doesn't do too
much for the LT crowd.
