Bike 2004 RT
GPS Garmin 2720
Mount Touratech
Wire Touratech
I mounted the GS and everything worked great for about 3 months. After a couple of hours of trouble shooting I decided the wiring harness had failed. Replaced the harness and was back in business. Last week I put the GS back on the bike and it was a no go again. I decided to bite the bullet and install the Navigator wiring harness but the part wasn’t in stock so I went home empty handed. This morning I started the troubleshooting process again and discovered that on both the 1st and 2nd failed harnesses the lower contact which is the power was missing. A little more digging and I found the cause of the problem
The plastic piece that holds the connector was broken and would break the power contact when the connector was removed.
I fabricated (hacked up an old plastic bottle) a replacement with a softer plastic and extended the tab at the entry point. Cable number three should be here in a couple of days so I will be back in business.
