I just had to share this with SOMEONE!

"If Republicans in this election vote in such a way as to say a candidate’s personal life and personal conduct in office doesn’t matter, then a lot of Christian evangelical leaders owe Bill Clinton a public apology."

-- Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), quoted by the Wall Street Journal, alluding to some of his rivals for the Republican presidential nomination.

Many of the the people who seek and achieve high position in politics, business, entertainment and even religion have an exceptional drive, focus and charisma. That drive also affects their personal relationships. They just don't have the same goals in personal relationships that most of the rest of us do. Some of the same attributes that bring them to the top of their fields also work against their having, or even wanting, a stable and strictly monogamous (at least on their part) relationship.

Clearly it's not a question of professed beliefs, or which side of the political aisle they sit on -- Newt Gingrich's sexual escapades are even sleazier than Bill Clinton's. Fallen evangelical leaders share the pew with pedophile priests and the Borgia popes.

It's just that the drives and personalities that are expressed in their professional lives are also reflected in their sexual aspirations.

You know what?

Obviously , you want to vote for a person that is aligned with your own beliefs and world view.

Given the choice, however,
I'd much rather [and have] vote for a politician with philosophies that I disagree with that was honest and I could trust than someone with whom I agree but was slimy.

Hillary is a good example. I wouldn't vote for her just because she seems to say anything to anyone to get votes and money.

Although I am a conservative (actually fiscal conservative social liberal) I have voted for flaming liberal candidates (Feingold, Nader) because I felt they were trustworthy. Feingold in particular has stuck to his guns with campaign finance reform and The Patriot Act bearing very heavy pressure from the press and public to chastise him in to changing his views.

If political leaders would react to errant personal behavior of other politicians like most christian evangelicals do to leaders in their organizations, I might agree with Huckabee. But I don't see this happening.

Sometimes regardless of who is running our country I often wonder if we are headed towards becoming one. We as citizens seem to be more codependent on our government that the field is getting ripe for anarchy ? Is this the leading cause for a dictatorship to rise and protect us ? Those of us that we elect keep spending money that we don't have and with globalization I fear we will become a third world nation regardless of our greatness of our people.

Becoming one? OSHA, EPA, FBI, ATF, DOE, DOJ, DOT and any letters I left out assembled in any order. Read the Declaration of Independence. The part about "swarms of officers" [sent by King George]. Sounds remarkably like most federal employment programs (see above). We fought the superpower of the time to exhaustion (see also Iraq v. US) over a tax increase of less than 1%.

The only difference between the parties is the Democrats want to raise your taxes and spend it here. The Republicans want to raise your taxes and give it to Cheneyburton, et al., minus a handling charge after passing it through Iraq. AND I get to go back....:sick
