I want to listen to my ipod through external speakers. My bike came without a radio but there are those speaker covers that look big enough fot an outside concert. I thought about putting some aftermarket speakers there and use an amplifier and some Ipod docking station. Anyone care to comment and/or make a suggestion. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Howdy-
Yes, what you are thinking of can be done. Here are a few things to think about...
1) Make sure you get weather resistant speakers. These will typically either be a polypropylene cone or have the paper cone coated with something.
2) Remember that other people will be able to hear your music. Not everyone likes the same music.
3) Your music will truly blow around, so you are not going to be getting highest fidelity.
4) You will probably want to "load" the speaker by placing it into an tight compartment of some part. What this means is the speaker should not just be flopping in the wind, it won't sound as good. You want to "load" up the resitance of the cone moving through the air by putting a certain amount of resistance on the speaker by placing it in a container or some sort. This is the whole reason that speakers are mounted in cabinets and tuned by controlling the amount of resistance available.
Can you tell what I do?:groovy

Hey Bradford, how about making me a nice set I can mount in my 06RT1200? I am willing to pay as I am certain you could beat the price BMW wants to charge for the same. Okay? :brow , just an idea but if you are interested in the extra work I am interested.:brad
