Could someone please tell me if they can see the flywheel through a gap between the starter housing and crankcase on the r1100?

If you take out the starter you will be looking directly at the large ring gear which is also the flywheel of sorts. The inner clutch friction plate attaches directly to the starter ring gear/flywheel.

You'll be able to see maybe 1/8th of the ring gear teeth.

Umm,....why do you ask?

I was concerned about the possibility that my 2nd hand RT might be missing some sort of dust cover for that gap.

Nope, nothing missing, that's normal unless someone else has anything to add?
The Oilheads use a dry clutch design, much like most cars with manual trannys. So the clutch is "exposed" to a point.
