I have a 2000 R1100R. The lights work . the switch is good too. PIAA 1100 Platinum . Looking for a easy but good way to hook up the on and off switch that comes with the lights. I have the tank off and have room to work. I tried the connection at the horn , but that won't cut it at that connection . I want the lights to work independently from the high and low beams. Power to the switch only when the ignition is on. switch to be nest to left high beam switch . I can follow a bundle of wires from the hrn to that without problems. I think I am close. My next move may to connect to the hot wire to the switch as apposed to near the horn .
I have read and responded to the other thread on Aux lights . I started this one to be more spacific. Any good Ideas would be appreciated.

Cycle gadgets sells a switch specifically for BMW R11xx that makes your turn signal cancel switch an on off switch for the auxillary lights go to www.cyclegadgets.com and check the AS-5NCY autoswitch. I just ordered the PIAA 1100's and this switch. I'm having my local dealer install them on Monday. Cost was $27.95. The description on the web site is good.

+3 AutoSwitch
For my PIAA's I put an Add-a-Circuit off my fuse block (horn fuse) to the AutoSwitch. For the 12v power to the light relay. I got that from a BlueSea Aux fuse block I installed. The BlueSea gets it’s power right from the battery.

I used the on/off switch that came with the PIAAs. I wired the power and ground wires to an unswitched Centech fuse panel (wired direct to battery with single in line 30 amp fuse) and the PIAA's relay wire to the tail light in the tail cone of my RT. The PIAA lights are independent of the bike's headlights, but won't turn on unless there is power to the tail light. BTW, I removed the fuse from the PIAAs power wire because it is fused by the Centech (same amp). I like the red/green light built into the PIAA switch because I can tell if the PIAAs are on or off while I'm riding. Hope this helps. Good luck. :wave

yes it does help. thanks for the input. I spliced into the horn wire from the battery before the switch. I tested it tonight and the lights work independently and the horn works fine. I am mounting the PIAA switch to the edge of the left hand controlls. all wires are routed in the same bundle as the head lights and horn wires.
The wire diagram in the Clymer was right on. lots of excess wire .
Did you shorten andy of the wires ?
I called the PIAA # talked to Wayne . This guy was a big help. I ran a caouple of ideas by him and he was ok with the horn wire splice before the switch.

I may have shortened the power and ground wires a bit, but I didn't mess with the wires leading from lights to the main harness. (I just zip-tied the extra along the top of the air intake shaft along the left side under the t-ware.) Also, when I spliced out the fuse on the power wire, that shortened it a bit. BTW, I mounted the switch in the same general location as you mounted yours. A friend of mine gave me his unused PIAA lights switch to use for my Motolights. I mounted it on the right handle grip area. The adhesive on the back of the switches seems to be holding up very well.

I have a bundle of extra wires about the size of a hot dog in the bun. I have that ine a space between the battery and and the Montronic (MCU) . that is a space about the size of a battery. the fuse is over the air filter cover near but not touching the O2 sensor. easy to change in a pinch.
I did not use the connector that came with the kit. too bulky. I used a bullet connector and resealed the wires in the casing and added shrink tubing over it to seal it . I should have soddered it . no gun handy and I wanted to get done. I covered the white switch wire with shrink tubing .

+4 on the Autoswitch. I wired my PIAA 1100X with the Autoswitch on my R1150RS this past week. Works like a charm and easy to do.

I do not kow if this will help. Bu I bought a switch and arelay from Autozone. I tied it to the ignition and direct battery power through the relay.
I tried to take some pictures of the process and put them on this website.

So, went to cyclegadgets.com to look up the autoswitch. Seems I had aquired a pair of PIAA lights but no connectors. They sold me the autoswitch. They sold me the wiring harne$$, they sold me a set of reflectors for my bags, they sold me a RAM mount for my sat radio and advised me on how to get an ATC plug to power my autocomm... So, for the price of one autoswitch I'm out over $180!!
Thanks guys, I can't wait to get it all hooked up and running, gotta get me some more gadgets.:thumb
