We have two years to go on the 04 Holiday Rambler 35' 3 slide.

Three months to go on the truck camper (04 Alpenlite 900) and it's ours.

Everything else is paid off.

Down side: Wifey wants me to get my own bike and stay off her 97 R-1100R.

Sooooooooo, I found a nice 02 R-1150RT. SHE got a equity loan on the Alpenlite (6.0% APR). The interest rate on the ALpenlite actually dropped a little.

Am I just paranoid?

Now I have cold feet, I hate debt!!! But love BMW riding.

Any offers of advice? :dunno

I've always lived with the philosophy that you don't buy a luxury or toy you can't pay for. It's probably just me but I did retire at 55 with all of the toys I wanted (but I have upgraded many of them since I retired 4 years ago) and no debt.

You are a long time dead.

If it is something both of you can do together - go for it.

No day but today.

No time like the present.

Buying what you can't afford is the american way.

Why not.

I hate debt. I envy those who have the discipline to put off till tomorrow what they can't pay for today.

However....I also enjoy riding my GS.

Cut it where you can and buy the thing.

I quit smoking to ride motorcycles and to have children too but for this story....to ride bikes. Here in Jersey a pack of smokes runs around 7 bucks. I was just about a pack a day guy. Since I wasn't quite a full pack a day we will call it 7X25=175. My payment on my GS is 176. It was a good trade off.

Live life within reason. It is so much more fun that way.

Someone help me but . . . . is there a decision to be made here?
Your destiny lays (lies?) before you . . . get the bike!

Silly Muppet. Do you really expect anyone here to talk you out of buying yourself a bike?:laugh

I can handle debt for vehicles and houses. Beyond that, I pay cash. I know myself too well.

Well, actually YOU win! Enjoy the bike. I agree with the others who say work hard to pay it off early. Every time you make a payment over the minimum you'll feel a little bit better. :thumb

Well, congrats on getting the RT. As far as going into debt to get it, looks like you made the decision. Lord knows, I've financed bikes in past. HMMMMMM......an R1100RS, Ducati ST4 and Motoguzzi come to mind. A few years ago, wifey and I decided we were gonna get ourselves debt free (except for the mortgage, of course). It took 21 months, but we paid all our stuff off, and we're not looking back.

I applaud your decision to find a good clean used RT. You saved a considerable amount of $$$, and probably got a great bike. I will probably buy my next BMW used as well (like I did the GS), but I don't like buying cages used. Luckly, I'm set on the cages for another 5 to 7 years.

Have fun!
