very cool, i have some friends on the olympic peninsula in washington state that build boats using traditional methods they learned in northern scotland. seems to require a lot of patience from what i've observed.

Boats are scary. I can't swim.
I bought a sailboat and trailer for $50 two years ago. I sold it for $150.

There are BMW owners who aren't out riding??? You're kidding, right?:lol :laugh
Photography and bikes. That's it for me. If you have a question about photography, pixels, photoshop or Raw images, I should be able to help. A few years ago it was the same topic with film, dark room and medium format cameras.
I do enjoy my pet Sugargliders!

Compete in service rifle matches. This one was a M1 Garand match. No tuned rifles, strictly rack grade. Lots of fun.

Thing is......if you need to swim, you have done something fundamentally wrong!;)
I sold my O'Day 25 a couple of years ago when golf and motorcycling would not allow enough time to enjoy the sailing, and the expenses of slip fees and hull maintenance could no longer be justified. But I still miss the pull of the tiller as she leaned into a nice breeze......

I used to sail when I lived east. As has our illustrious Mr. Nye, I have been in a couple of Newport Bermuda races. I have never gotten the urge to do fresh water sailing since I moved to the great lakes unless a Hobie Cat was involved.

Ah, the Bermuda Race... I did the Marion-Bermuda Race in 1979; I was 11.
This is me, the morning we reached Bermuda. It was the first day I could stand watch. I hadn't been able to keep down any food in 4 days. According to my parents, I had been kind of a pudgy kid up until that point.

I THINK about riding!!:clap
I have a "land yacht" 22' Chrysler in my yard,it was my dad's and the swing keel decided to spring a leak and added about 55 gallons weekly at the lake slip. My brother the machinist has promised a part for about 3 years...
learned sailing with a Sunfish at age 8, dad built a B-class Catamaran in the 70's ZOOM-ZOOM..Hobie 14's were just coming out and this would pounce them...and scare them !!!20 foot long, 10 wide w/ a 30' mast. I miss that ride. he then restored a 25' Coronado some offshore oil rig workers found banging against their rig...attempted scuttle. that fixed keel baby did not like shallow West Galveston Bay...more than once had to heel it over to get out of the sand
Also have a 1940's era Flying Dutchman of his I keep at Galveston, a very fast day sailer that used to be the Olympic -rated two man rig
gf wanted to get a used 23' Hunter about a week or so ago....asked when were we going to use that??? we ride ALL weekend, every weekend it seems! She had a J-24 years ago...before me unfortunately...that is a sweet boat!!
How did this turn into a sailboat thread?:dunno :dunno :dunno :dunno :dunno

That race is for wussies..... You can use electronics for navigation. But then, you were 11... At 11 I was still doing lakes in my Dad's lightning, an occasional 1 class in Buzzards Bay.

WOW! Yes, I know them well. The son-in-law of our lake neighbors was an Olympic sailor, hand made wood hulled Flying Dutchman he got from Holland. I spent may summers drooling over it until he finally allowed me the honor of heading out with him.
My grandparents had an amazingly stable boat. My father and I had it out on a dark and stormy fall afternoon competing to see who could get the rail in the water. It was 33 feet I think... ahh British(?) double keeled - Golden Hind! Yup that's it. A bath tub with a bandana would have been faster...

Been on many rolling (sometimes bouncing)decks myself, and I miss the feel of the wind in my fist, some spray in my face.
I will return to the sport.

Work; be a father & husband; sports; sail (I have a Wayfarer dinghy, lots of fun); think about rides & getting a new bike; play the piano; enjoy life in general.

Living in Northest Michigan we tend to have long winters. So that means the bikes stay in the garage. Our cure was snowmobiles but; I sold the machines to replace them with four stroke snowmobiles.
When not riding the bikes. I do a lot of hunting and fishing. Then I make time for work. We also bought a new house on 41 acres of hardwoods. That really keeps us busy.
The highest priority at this time is helping take care of my dying father-in-law and support my wife while she goes through these tough times.
Take Care & Ride Safe
