I purchased the Canbus Helper from Tourtech and I have a question. It appears pretty straight forward with the hook up to the battery, but there is a yellow wire that according to the instructions should be attached to the wire connecting to the parking light bulb in the headlight housing. What is the purpose of this and is there another location where the yellow wire on the Canbus Helper can be attached to serve the same purpose. This is for my new R1200R.

Thanks everyone.

The reason for this wire is to let the relay know when the bike is key on and key off. I am sure you could hook it up to almost any low voltage wire but the parking light is actually an easy hook-up. BTW the canbus helper has saved me many jump starts, I had a problem remembering to turn off my motolights and they will flatten a battery pretty well.

If you buy the good stuff you don't need any helper. Oh wait, that's canbus, no
"i" there.........never mind. :p

Thanks folks. I actuallly noticed the link to the supplier from another canbus thread and they answered the question also. Looks simple enough. I had some really good stuff once....can't remember when. At least with this canbus I don't get the munchies as much. :brow

:ha

I attached the yellow wire to the power lead on the accessory outlet harness. I then disconnected the accessory plug from the harness and built a jumper from the CanBus helper to the plug.

I just added the TT CANbus helper and used the "green with blue stripe" wire on the diagnostics plastic gizmo under the seat. This gives you switched power (if you add a switch) that is easier to access than using the parking light connection.

Also putting the TT CANbus helper under the seat makes it easier to add something in the futue (removing the gas tank everytime you want to add something to the CANbus helper would be a pain).

I need to ask a question here.

First let me plead guilty to being stupid, so don't jump all over me.

My question is, why does anyone have to do anything with the canbus? Is it because many of you are putting lots of electronic gizzmos on your bikes? If so, and I don';t put any of them on mine, then I don;t have to bother with the canbus.

Yes or No.

Thanks

No worries.

The answer is kind of yes and no.

I installed a CanBus helper so I could get more than 5 amps of output out of the accessory outlet. That let's me run two electric jackets without a problem. If you're not going to run much from the accessory outlet (at least less than 5 amps), you won't have a problem. So, if you run a Gerbings or other jacket that draws some juice, you might need a CBH.

For my PIAAs, I just wired it up with the relay running off the battery and the parking light giving the power supply for the relay switch.

Does that help?

Yes or No.Yes. Wait! No! That is correct. Yes, the answer is "No." Hold it - wait! No! No. No. No, the answer is "Yes." That doesn't seem right, either.

No gizmos = no bother. Howzat?

Well, maybe. Like I said, a heated jacket that draws more than 5 amps may cause you to need a CBH.

OK

Thanks for the replies. I do run a Gerbings jacket liner. So far no problem. My 07 is only two months old, but I have used the Gerbings jacket quite alot with no problem. So I am guessing that I am good to go. I don't plug anything else into the outlet. My wife is a DEVOUT NON RIDER so the socket in the rear is not used.
