My gf is ready to replace her 95 R with the new 1200. She rode her Bro-in-laws bike for about an hour Saturday and did not care for the skinny/lightly padded seat. She was on my 02 R and is fine with it.

She said the new seat pressed on her tailbone and was not so sure of buying the black pinstriped beauty at the dealer now:dunno

Any feedback/opinions from new owners of the current R? I sure was looking forward to sneaking it out of the garage!!

I rode a mere 2 hours on my factory seat ('05 RT) this weekend and couldn't believe how bad it was - too soft, pressure points, could not wait to get off the bike.

I have a Corbin (which is at thier shop for repair, unfortunately) which I have been extremely pleased with. You can search this site for threads on this topic and you will find that each butt is unique and each rider has their own favorite seat, but the one recurring theme is that BMW does not know how to make a decent seat.

So tell your girl to buy the bike and accept the fact that she will want to change the seat out. You might even be able to negotiate something with the dealer.

New seats are relatively cheap considering how important the butt to bike interface is.

do they even have after market seats for the R1200R yet?...it is a one piece narrow "sliver" and not as wide as the previous R1150R's which was narrower than her 95 1100

And I just talked to her...she still wants it.:thumb We use the Alaska fur seats on my Rt and the R's, and her bro-in-law had one, but it did not help the hardness. I guess sending it to Mayer or someone will be the answer...she will at least have one of mine to ride...

I have about 1400 miles on my R1200R, and other than an initial problem with the electronic ignition sensor which stranded me by the side of the road at 300 miles, I just love the bike. It is the smoothest running and smoothest shifting boxer I have ever riden. I am six feet tall and I found the taller of the three seat options fit me better. I have done a couple of 300 mile days so far and the stock tall seat seems fine to me. However I am a stock seat kind of guy and put 50,000 miles on one of my R1100S's with the stock seat. I suspect my butt is less sensitive than some others perhaps. :wave BTW, I have the middle height seat and the system case mounts for sale if anyone is interested.

My R1200R seat is OK for stock. I haven't taken any really long trips on her yet, but so far the seat's pretty good for a couple of hours at a whack. As far as I know, none of the usual suspects is marketing a replacement yet.
